this is a step by step guide on how to file a paypal dispute then close it. This was created by me and was started to help prevent the rise in paypal chargebacks. I know it sucks to get scammed after a trade only to be left with nothing and having the other person being able to keep their money and what you traded them. I have also had other people ask me how to do this and since i do not feel like typing it out each time i figured a guide was needed.

So when trading always use a mediator if you can. I am willing to mediate most trades (tips not necessary but appreciated), depends on if i have what you are trading. I would also prefer that you try to get one of the other mediators first before coming to me.

Secondly if you are going to be trading anything for paypal, make sure the person you are trading with disputes the payment then cancels the dispute before trading them your item. It will help prevent them from doing a chargeback. While it is not 100% foolproof, it does help decrease the chance of you being scammed.

what you can do with this guide:

    - you may follow this guide in its entirety or any part you need.
    - you may inform others of this post via any physical or electronic means.
    - you may post this guide, in its entirety only, on other websites, forums, faqs, etc.
    - if you would like to change any part of my guide you must have my written consent.

    1. Open up a new browser page and type www.paypal.com in the address bar. Make sure it says www.paypal.com in the address bar before you enter your information. There are websites out there that may look like the original paypal page, but are fake, and they are used to steal your information.

    2. Type in your paypal email address and password. Then click on the "log in" button.

    3. On the top navigation bar click on the "send money" button. It is highlighted in the following image.

    4. Enter the person's email address that you want to send the money to, if you don't know their email then ask them. On the next empty text box enter the amount you would like to send them. Make sure that you have the "goods" box selected. Then hit "continue".

    5. Then you will get a review payment page. Thoroughly check over the information to make sure everything is correct. Then click on the "send money" button.

    6. On this page it will confirm that the money has been sent to the person you are trading with. Now click on the "view transaction details" link. The link is highlighted in the image below.

    7. This page will show all details of the transaction including the person's name, email, and the amount sent to that person. Now click on the "resolution center" link, which is right above the big "return to my account" button at the bottom of the page.

    8. Select "item dispute" and then click on the "continue" button.

    9. On the reason for dispute page, select "i haven't received my item". Then click on the "continue" button.

    10. Now we will need to pick an option for our "what is the category of our purchase". Click on the box that says "- select category -" then scroll through the options and.........

    11. Select "other tangible goods".

    12. Now you may type in a message to the person you are trading with, however it is not needed. Now click "continue".

    13. You have now filed a dispute. Congratulations! Pat your self on the back. Once you have satisfactorily patted yourself click on the "go to resolution center" button.

    14. The new page will display some more information, none of which is really useful to us. Now click on the "view" link at the bottom right of the page, which is shown in the image below.

    15. Blah blah blah, more useless information on the right. Just click on the "close this dispute" link at the bottom of the page.

    16. In the box on this page type in that you received the item, you can say it however you want, just make sure that is known that you got it. Then click on the "close dispute" button.

    17. This page will simply confirm that the dispute was closed. It shows the same information on this page as the other ones. it also shows you the paypal dispute case number in big green text. Now click on the "my account" button on the top navigation bar.

    18. This page is what it should look like if you did everything right. However it would have the information of whoever you traded with at the bottom.

    congratulations you did it.

now go eat a cookie and have fun with your new toy.

have something to add? Let me know. If it is important enough i will add it to the guide.

i don't believe you can file a dispute for the same item after you have confirmed that you have received it. so this guide is showing how to get them to file a dispute so that they can not dispute there money back after they receive there item or account of whatever you are selling them.

The only problem with this is if the person who's buying your account or w/e has the intent to scam you with a Paypal charge back he sure as hell is not going to follow this guide even if you tell him to.

Well if they dont follow this guide, and if you dont use a mediator/if they refuse to use a mediator, then simply dont trade with that person. It doesnt hurt you to simply and kindly decline a trade. Yes you can tell when the other person starts the dispute and when they cancel the dispute. I always make sure the other person goes first, or we can use a mediator. But where i trade, people trust me.

Plus i also mediate alot of trades. When i do mediate a trade, seller gives me what buyer wants, i give buyer the link to the guide and tell them to follow the steps on the page. When buyer is done completing all the steps. I make both parties SS their paypal for proof if i ever need it down the road. Then once i get both SS from them, then i give buyer their item.

I am not saying this is going to be an end all to scammers. Lets face it, if the person is 100% intending to scam you, they will find a way to do. But everything that you can do to help prevent being scammed helps. A bunch of small things, over the long run, add up.
