Hi all, thought its about time I try to give something back to the community.
Don't know if this has been posted before, but someone on my guild site posted this a few months back and it made a huge difference to my latency in WoW and on other games (CSS, COD4). I used to get about 170-250ms in Org and Shatt but now only get 20-60ms
This might be a bit long winded but here goes.
1. Open Start Menu go to Run and type cmd
2. In the command prompt type ipconfig and note down your ip address
3. Go back to Run and type regedit
4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services -> Tcpip -> Parameters -> Interfaces
5. There should be a few folders listed there, click through them till you find your ip address
6. Once you've found Right Click in the White Area and go to New -> DWORD Value
7. Rename it TcpAckFrequency (must be exactly like this)
8. Right Click it and go Modify
9. Click Hexidecimal and set the value to 1, then close regedit
10. On the Desktop or Start Menu, Right Click My Network Places and go to Properties
11. Right click the Connection you use to connect to the internet and Disable then Re-Enable it
12. Load WoW and enjoy your lower latency
I'm not to sure if this works on Vista or if its XP only.
If you got a Mac then I was told that if you do the following you get the same results, but there was only the one of them that had a Mac so don't know if this works or not
Open Terminal (Under applications, depending on what OS your running i guess) and type in
sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0
It'll ask you for your administrator password, so just pop it in an it'll change
Hope this helps some of you out
