Explanation for lack of links: Sorry for the lack of links, but WoW has keyloggers like crazy being posted, and I simply type in addresses myself anymore, and have others do the same, it's the safest way. Google is your best friend, and really takes no more time then clicking the link or pasting it into your browser. Also, I'm tired and lazy.
Now for the Guide and one suggestion:
Suggestion: DOWNLOAD Necrosis if you follow my Drain Tanking advice to the dot. Drain Soul will build up tons of Shards you don't need and waste bag space, Necrosis can be used to automatically delete shards after set number are in your bags. Necrosis can be found in the lock section of Curse WoW.
Intro: This is nothing against the other Warlock guide, it's what works best for him and that's cool. However, 10 days played time on a lock is nothing, getting there in around 7 days and change played time is what you should be shooting for. Also, not pulling mobs off of your VW is always an impossible feat for me, I burn them down far to fast for him to hold aggro.
Rambling: This is the best way for a warlock to get to that magic 70 ASAP. This guide will tell you how to best level through talents and spell rotation, not where to go. So complement this method with one of the in-game guides, iDemise is one of the best I have seen, and someone has lovingly posted it on our forums.
[Guide] Here ya go
Level to 10 doing quests at your starting area. Get your imp and have him burn people down. If you can, get water and just Shadowbolt the crap out everything at your low levels, DoTs are wasted with the short kill times. At about 6+ Start DoTing stuff up, if you still are killing stuff before about 3/4 of the DoT has ticked, switch back to Shadowbolt spam
Put your next five talent points into Imp Corruption
Get VW and use him till 20. DoTs and wands...only cast time you should have is Immolate at the start. Rotation ->Pet hits mob-Curse of Agony (longest DoT time)- Immolate-Corruption-Wand
Continue to put talent points into Afflic and max out Fel Concentration as well as Improved Drain
Soul (5 points and 2 points respectively).
You'll have lots of choices on what to put points in. Boost your damage whenever you can. Whether that be the CoA talent, or the Corruption Spell Dmg increase, or anything else, you definitely want it. Otherwise, use your common sense, you'll know what is best for the leveling you enjoy.
Pull out Succy at this point. DoT up your target, (targets once you get the hang of it), have your succy beat on it, while DoTs do more damage and Drain Life the target until its dead. Use Drain soul before your target dies for 15% mana return. Ensure you life tap if you're at full health at the end of the fight and you need mana. This is referred to as Drain Tanking...now you know.
Spec Siphon Life at level 30. Quit using Immolate at this point, it's a mana hog, and all spells you will now be using are instant, and two channeled (Drain Life and Drain Soul.) No cast times for no knockback for faster killing.
Put your 3 insta-dots on targets, drain life them until dead. You're still using the Succy.
Grab Dark Pact at 40. Use Imp at this point. Keep him on passive, as well. You're still drain tanking, but using dark pact in between fights to regain mana and using life tap less or not at all
Personal Decision Time! Respec for a Felguard at 55 (You want Imp Corruption still) or don't, it's really up to you. I stay Afflic but the Felguard is nice for taking on lots of tough mobs at once (Not as efficient as one at a time still, just useful in a pinch) If you stay afflic, keep using the Level 40+ method.
If you go Demo and get Felguard, DoT the mob up, let your Felguard keep beating on him, and move on to the next mob. If you are fighting mobs around your level and you have soul link up, and keep putting all 3 DoTs on each target, (You no longer have siphon life, you're using Immolate again) your Felguard should be done with the first mob, and on the newly acquired mob as it begins to hurt you. You should be able to burn them down pretty fast this way. If not, wand down the targets or respec Afflic (The smart choice)
Rinse and Repeat till 70. From there...it's really up to you. There's a few differing opinions on what to spec to, and it relies heavily on if you are going to BG, Arena, or PvE. Check World of Warcraft Community Site and go to the Warlock Forums for more information.
Tweak this as necessary. If you notice that you could be DoTing up one mob and having your succy beat on it while you drain tank another, go for it. This will usually be the case once you get a few quest rewards and BoE greens, leveling a lock is pretty EZ mode once you know what you're doing and the best way to do it. I don't often use fear because I'm usually working in areas where that would cause more harm than benefit. Don't forget that it functions as an oh %^&# button though. If you're going to die, you might as well risk saving your life rather than impending death.
Throw in Amplify Curse at your discretion. You may want to save it if you accidentally pull that third mob and need the extra CoA dmg, but at the same time it's only a 3 minute timer and you don't want to have it sitting there collecting dust.
Questions on leveling a lock? (I've got 3 to 70) Just PM me and post here to keep this guide bumped, hopefully it will end up in the class guide section eventually. I'll be glad to help and I could use the subtraction of leecher status so ask away and happy leveling.
