    Fps/latency Complete Guide!

    Hello guys, this is Retail here. This is my third guy on mmowned.com. Today I will give a complete guide to boost ingame frame rates per second and latency. Hope you learn some tips. I am open for any questions/suggestions also.

    FRAMES PER SECOND(FPS)

    First off. We will focus on things outside the game and work our way ingame for FPS.
    FIRST
    Be sure you have the latest video, sound, and motherboard drivers. More information on identifying your video and sound driver versions! Motherboard drivers should be available on your motherboard or system manufacturer's site. Be sure that you have the latest available updates for Windows. To get these new updates please visit; ("http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/") .. Also, execute any useless processes like limewire, bittorent,etc, p2p clients use alot of useless bandwidth. Try deleting your Cache folder everytime you start up WOW too. The cache folder is like a internet explorer .temp folder for wow.

    Okay second step is your Windows Prefetch Cache. You are going to make a .bat file and run it everytime before you start Wow.exe. It will delete the windows prefetch cache. the cache generally means loading something ahead of time! Okay, so right click your desktop, go to new<text document. Write WORD FOR WORD the following for the first line in the document; del C:\Windows\Prefetch\*.* /Q
    Once writting press Tab or Enter so you go down to line 2. Then write; Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

    Then go to file<save as<put the save as type to ALL TYPES< rename to FPSBOOSTER.bat [MAKE SURE YOU PUT .BAT AT THE END IN LOWERCASE LETTERS.<

    Okay so now Step 2!
    Exec'ing WOW.EXE.

    Try running WOW in OpenGl Mode.
    To open in opengl you need to have editing access to the config.wtf folder. to do this do this,

    - Open the World of Warcraft folder on your hard drive (Default Folder: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft).
    - Open the WTF folder.
    - Open the Config.wtf file using a text editor, like notepad.exe.

    Enabling OpenGL write the following line in the config.wtf;
    SET gxAPI "OpenGL"

    Try playing wow without ANY sound or music;
    SET Sound_EnableAllSound "0"

    Try playing wow in windowed mode;
    SET gxWindow "1"

    Check your hard disk for errors by following the instructions on Blizzard's ScanDisk/Defrag page: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/21144

    You can also add these to the config.wtf ; * SET lod "0"
    Toggles Terrain Level of Detail (LOD) on "1" and off "0".

    * SET mapShadows "0"
    Turns display of terrain shadows on "1" or off "0".

    * SET shadowLevel "0"
    Sets the resolution of the shadow maps on the terrain. "0" is high, "1" is low.

    * SET farclip "477.0"
    This matches the Farclip slider bar in the Game Options menu. The range is 177 to 777.

    * SET pixelShaders "0"
    Enabling pixelShaders allows the world to be rendered in less passes, potentially increasing performance on cards that support them.

    * SET specular "0"
    Specular cannot be used without pixelShaders. This option enables specular highlighting on certain terrain textures, giving a shiny, reflective look to some objects.
    Or go ingame and go to video settings and turn every setting to low.

    Now to ingame guide, start the fpsbooster, then start up wow!!

    Once ingame go to the green bar by your bags, check your current framerate. Then press escape>video settings>turn VERTICAL SYNC OFF! This will help increase FPS alot. Put Spell detail HIGH, Turn everything to LOW, Turn off the death glowing effect. It is optional to turn off character shadows. You can also turn down multisampling to the lowest option.

    LATENCY

    Always make sure your network adapter is UP TO DATE.

    Now this trick gave took my 1000MS on high pop thrall down to 200MS!!

    This trick only works in Windows XP.

    Go to your desktop, Start-Run-type CMD, once the black box is open type ipconfig, hit enter, write down the IP Address you see remember it, now exit, go back to desktop Start-Run-type regedit, Open the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,Then SYSTEM, Then CurrentControlSet, then Services, then find in the list tcpip,then go to Parameters, Then Interfaces, You will see a bunch of folders, look through them until you see your IP Address on the right. the line is called DhcpIpAddress, once found then next to the IP right click the white area,and select - DWord Value, Right click the file it just created in the folder, and rename to this exactly! Type; TcpAckFrequency, Double click it and set Value Data to 1 Hexadecimal. Then, Disable your network connection, and then re-enable. AND THEN THATS IT REOPEN WOW AND LOOK!

    I really hoped this guide helped, please ask me any questions and i'll try to do my best to answer them and tell me some suggestions, ill update this every two days.

    I am in NO way affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment or World of Warcraft, or Warcraft. I do NOT work for them, nor know any persons who do.

    Other guides that arent made by me(I TAKE NO REP FOR THESE GUIDES BELOW THIS);

    Also, try cleaning out your World of Warcraft "cache" folder.
    If you use the internet alot you may have unwanted bugs lurking through your ram and hard-drive. Visit Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft and download the free version of Ad-Aware and update it to the recent update

    Also, scan for viruses, a free download of one is at avast! antivirus - high security and protection from malware with anti-spyware and anti-rootkit software built in.
    Try to avoid Norton. It takes up too many resources.

    Added 6-6-08 - Download an effective cleaning program called CCleaner. Visit CCleaner - Home for a freeware download!

    Added 6-6-08 - Heat tends to cause machines to either make a stop-and-go type performance, over-time degrading performance or system shutdowns (not restarts). Each family of processors has its own way of dealing with heat. Some throttle their speed to low-speed, some may insert blank instruction sets. You can find more information in your processor's documentation.

    For processors that throttle speed, you can use ThrottleWatch (may be outdated) or RMClock (supports most modern CPUs as well as older ones) to keep an eye on the processor's operating history, another way could be to buy a cheap hand-held fan and turn it on into the system, DO NOT TOUCH THE PC WHILE EXPOSED TO STATIC. Always touch unpainted metal before opening or buy an anti-static bracelet

    - Download. CPU Rightmark

    Nice information. Also In major citys it helps if you turn off character and guild names. (For me at least :P)

    Very nice... I already am at 160 ms, but for some reason I always lag. I'm usually at 10 fps, even with all the settings on low. T_T This is a real pain in the ass, considering I am using a computer with Windows XP, not a really old one.

    Im usually 50-200MS depending on the time. I have all the settings low, and I go at 14 FPS. What I reccomend is you to try the Prefetch deletion. It will help you with your fps lag issues.

    I usually sit around the 200ms mark, but the last couple of weeks Ive been getting the biggest lag spikes, jumping from 200-2500ms and back again. Thanks for the info and I'm going to try out your recommendations for the latency, but I was wondering is there any program you can recommend for monitoring my net connection speeds, so I can rule out my isp.
    regs Blu.

    ps the Net Noob tattoo will be appearing on a forehead near me soon :P

    I have posted a similar guide here:

    http://www.mmowned.com/forums/wow-guides/72024-wow-performance-guide.html

    My ping went down from 200 to 49 when i used those, FPS increased from 30 to 70, most of them are registry edits, you should try them out too.

    Having it in windowed mode DOES NOT help. Why? Because it has to render your desktop as well. Other than that good guide.
