Exploiting Auctioneer Users for more gold!

This is a simple yet effective way to get more gold for your goods in the auction house.
    Auctioneer not required

Most people know that the auctioneer addon tells people the average price of any item on the auction house.

People frequently buyout items that auctioneer tells them is, for example, 75% the usual price then they re-list them for higher.

This is a well known method that is a gold maker in itself.
    BUT.
How can I use this to my advantage?

    1. Obtain an item that can stack, such as dream dust (may not be very profitable, just an example item to put things in context) the more you can get, the quicker you profit.

    2. Search for the average price of a stack of dream dust on your AH.

    3. Post said items on the AH for insane prices-- say a normal stack goes for 50g, post them 500g a stack.

    4. People with auctioneer log on their banks and run full AH scans.. average price for your posted item rises slowly. --I would keep reposting for at least 4 days--

    5. Auctioneer starts telling people a higher recommended price to post their own items.

    6. Non-auctioneerers follow suit of the high prices.

    7. Now you post your stacks at undercutting everyone else, yet making (in my case) double or more than what you would have made!!

    8. Dance or take a victory lap!

Note- this may actually be vital but enchanting mats require no deposit, so posting mats at insane prices is completely free, may also be true for other types of items. (not 100% sure)

I apologize if this is a repost, couldn't find anything like it and this just hit me when I was scanning the AH the other day.

Try it out and let me know how it goes, if the feedback is good ill clean this post up a bit and maybe add screenshots or a video

    :wave::wave::wave:

Zamboni made a good point on this..

I did some experimenting earlier and these are my results.

I had some small glimmering shards laying around (1
I search the AH and find the average price per 1 is ~13 silver.
    I post my 18 for 8g.
I search again and find that the 13 silver auctions that auctioneer had said were 100% (average price) was telling me those were about 85% (15% markdown.. ofc)
So I take my 18 shards down and repost them (no charge for enchanting mats) for 60 gold..
I search small glimmering shards again and voila, auctioneer says those 13 silver shards are now 27%. (73% markdown!)
Now with time, bargain hunters will buyout these shards and repost them higher... now you can post yours and receive much more gold!!!

Non-believers... this idea has now been proven. thanks.

It's a good idea but you better hope no one finds how it's you messing up the economy, or you might be in too deep.

Good idea, yet the feeling of "not going to work".
Dunno why, maybe just because people have a tendancy to use common sense + auctioneer not just auctioneer..

and it does not work with auctioneer. Go to the hompage and read the function of auctioneer. They redesign the average calculation last year so that insane prieces are ignored for calculation......

The people who control the market with auctioneer are the ones with such an old and large database, that a deviation like this for 4 days will hardly make any difference.

They also know when common sense must come into play.

Oh, and of course, the above post applies ^^

If it's a cheap item make your high price less than 10 times the normal price, expensive items make it three or so times the normal price.

I JUST tested this, and it's working fine.. just dont make your price like 100 times the average
