For WoW? You can emulate the client but theres no error opcodes to send along the lines of "The servers are down."
i rember back when i played runescape there was this scam were this guy made a website which suposedly was a game client, and every time you loged in youd get mass amounts of money and rare stuff. ive thought about it, and what if some one made a program that you can download (thats actauly a keylogger) but looks exactly like the wow cleint but when you try to log it says (servers are down) so you get thier pass/user name.
any opinions on this?

how about posting one of those blizzard updates on the side that list what servers are down? or simply d/c them as they are "loading" thier charecter
or you can make the client change the realmlist.wtf to a fake server or a private server and have it act as a keylogger
to do that, you'd probably have to implant a trojan or worm in their system, and keep a log of all people that attempt to log onto your fake server. Wish I knew how to write a trojan up.
Something I thought about, I don't personally do this, but playing on private servers is fun. But have I am sure a lot of players who play on them probably use their real wow account name and password maybe even email if the Private server ask for it to make an account on a private server. might be a good idea for a scam. Make a private server and then try the accounts people register on live wow. Probably already been thought of, but just an idea.
