This method involves a Wal-Mart and very flexible ethics. Fair warning.

This method I've used a few times and I thought that I would share it here. It involves a scanner, a sheet of the self adhesive paper(sticker paper), and a preliminary trip to Wal-mart (or any other retail store w/ the battle chest, i just prefer Wally-World's self check out)

1. Go to Wal-Mart and look for their "bargain" computer games. find the cheapest one you can, i found one for 9.99. Buy this game.

2. When you get home, don't open the game, just scan the box and get the barcode. save the Jpeg or what ever format it is. you will be using this for a while.

3. print the barcode out on the adhesive paper. it needs to be clear and crisp, blurry ones just wont cut it. cut out the barcode with enough room to cover the one on the battle-chest, but small enough to palm.

4. return the 9.99 game to the store and just ask for a cash refund. say you bought the game for a birthday present but they already had one. that always works for me.

5. Find the battle-chest for 30-40$ and pick it up put it in your cart and head to one of the price checker stations all over the store, this is where you test your barcode, don't put it on yet, just hold it over the box and see if it scans, if it does then its time to leave. if it doesn't you fail at printing. sorry. try again.

6. peal off the sticker in your pocket and as you lift it out of the box discretely place your barcode over the real one. as you ring your self up at the counter it should say "software game 9.99" or something like that. be sure to place the item on the scanner so the magnetic thing doesn't go off. and when you are done w/ the check out go home.


I've done this a few times you just have to be discrete about it and i always buy one when i have other items to buy, makes it more believable.

Big problem here:

Let's say the bar code is for Rollercoaster Tycoon, and the game is a WoW battlechest. The register would say "ROLLER COASTER TYCOON - $10.50"
Rollercoaster Tycoon is NOT World of Warcraft
