Shadow Priest Viability Question

Hello gents. After around 8 months (middle WOTLK) I've been considering coming back to WoW for awhile. I have an 80 Priest, Mage, and Rogue.

While I found playing with the mage pretty DPS PvP friendly (and they got nice abilities in Cata from what I see), I always enjoyed playing my Shadow Priest more. The self-heal DoTs were fun, as well as the hours and hours of entertainment Mind Control gave me . It seems as though SPriests are better than ever with Shadow Word: Death, but of course this is an outside perspective.

Basic Question: I enjoy playing Shadow Priest, and am considering coming back. How viable is Shadow Priest in PvP? (Also curious in PvE, but not as much)

i'm a 2750 rated spriest in 2's and 2600 in 3's. I run shadow priest / frost mage for 2's and Shadow priest / warrior / resto druid for 3's. We suck against Dks, mages and sometimes warriors, and blow up all other classes (if geared well). Any other questions feel free to ask.

Alright, so we can hold our ground. From what I remember (Wasnt here since Vanilla) We melted face in TBC, however in WOLTK we seemed a little....lacking. Would you say it's been a step up since WOLTK, we have an AOE, plus SWD, so things look like Shadow is on the upswing from my perspective.

Our aoe is pretty bad, we have mindsear and blizzard keeps inching the damage of that up a bit every patch. Best aoe isn't that great ( put VT + SW:P ) on everything. In WotLK patch 3.2 is really around where we got our dps boost. Check out patch notes. SW is AMAZING - if the mob is <25% on their health, you have chances at doing 30k finishing crits x 2 (if you're glyphed ). Its amazing for pvp, and some boss fights to regain some mana ( if spec'd right of course ). Mages are fun, but kinda stupid and everyone has one. I'd say if you want to really turn some heads in pvp - get pro at spriest.

preists are pretty good at burst these days and there dots do way more damage than warlocks but i seemed to get torn to to peices by warriors and soon like 6 of our used spells are being nerfed by 12 % ;(

Priest's are pretty good at the moment in terms of pvp so its well worth getting back.
I see alot of people running Disc Priest + Blood DK nowadays, seems to work pretty well.
