Paid Character Name Change

The fine folks at Blizzard have a NEW way to get more money! For only 10$ you can change your character name!

Hopefully there's a way to track all these changes, otherwise ninja'ing will go nuts:

We’re happy to announce that through the wonders of modern gnomish engineering, you are now able to change your characters’ names. Finally, you can turn the moniker that seemed like a good idea at the time into something more befitting your true standing in World of Warcraft.

Visit Account Management to begin the paid character-name-change process. The fee is $10 per name change. As with our recent addition of voice chat to the game, this feature is being rolled out across all realms in several phases. The first-phase realms are listed in this forum post. Enjoy this new feature and the subsequent effect that your bold new name will have on friends and foes alike.

It appears that only certain realms are first on this roll-out. I don't see my server on it either, and I have no clue whether EU is on the list.

Check your Account Management page, if it'd be anywhere it'd be there, but I'd be willing to bet that the EU realms are the last to be changed.

I'm willing to bet that they will use it for the EU realms, but will probably roll it out on all US realms first.

You might have to wait a few days/weeks.

I'm not sure what this is going to do to the game, but I'm not sure much good can come of it. Yeah, the people who were berated for making a past mistake or doing soemthing (a ninja, or scam) they regret, but can't get that long past transgression off their name finally can. However, there's probably more harm than good to be done in this.



Good example: My RL friend plays a warrior. He leveled prot instance grinding and what not and for many levels while leveling up he was made fun of for saying "warriors do just as well with a shield", and also, "prot's great for grinding" and got all kinds of hate for it. Been 70 for a bit and people still have no faith in his ability to be a warrior because when he was knew he thought prot was a great grind spec. People don't want him in guilds because of the ridicule he still gets. Only once me and my other RL friends made a guild with him did he get to raid. If he could change his name, he'd have a clean slate and be free to do whatever without the consequences of his past.



Bad example: a large raiding guild, let's say in hyjal. They have a large guild bank saved up, tons of epic gems/flasks, you name it. Officers and GM begin arguing and few weeks later he ninja-disbands the guild late at night with the contents of the guild bank. Changes his name, doesn't log in for a few days then just goes about being a normal person and no one knows a damn thing. I think it's a poor idea, great for making money and ultimately, blizzard is a company which wants to make money. This accomplishes that very well. I don't think it's necessary, or widely wanted.

Interesting to see blizzard brought this out, I thought of the idea before and wondered if Blizz would bring it out.

Blizzard wants us WoW-players to think that they are doing a great service by allowing name changes. But of course, there is a price tag attached. $10 USD? Really? That seems like a lot of money, seeing as transferring a character from one server to another is $25 USD, which is also an obscene amount of money for nothing. Blizzard just wants to make more money than they already are, and this is the newest way to do that.

I hate you Blizzard.

Just an note, if you change your name people who have you /ignored or /friend will have your new name updated as well. There's a not about this in the official documentation somewhere...

Not that it matters, but for scam purposes perhaps.

I think i'd probably do this, made a shaman who's name is stinkin stupid as heck, and the name alone is preventing me from actually leveling him

Stop whining about the expensive price, it's to try and stop people doing it for bad purposes like scamming ect.
