Cross Realm. How to get to a specific server?

Hello.
I want to get my character to a specific realm through cross realm mechanism.
Specifically by inviting myself through "Custom" LFG.
I did it with one realm, but can't do it with another for some reason.
Character I want to transfer stays on his own realm.

The first time I got it done was by creating lvl 1 and leveling him to level 10 (so I could create LFG group). This character is in Goldshire Tavern. And character I want to trasfer is on Darkmoon Island.
Second time I created a DK. Didn't work. Characted which I invited stayed on this original realm. DK is in the spot where it appears right after creation. Character I want to trasfer is on the Darkmoon Island.

So how do I do it reliably?

I think with DKs you have to finish the starting zone first.
Also, if I remember correctly, the character with the highest level is seen as the "host" and so all will be transferred to that

In the case of battletag/real ID invites, the realm will be randomly chosen.
