Friend has old account...what can I do with it?

A personal friend of mine mentioned that he played wow for a number of years and quit during Wrath. His account still has several characters, tabs full of items and who knows what else. He handed me his battle net info and said to look around and I can have it if I want.

I know I can't merge it, etc, but I could use it as a second account right? Any issues or problems I need to worry about?
The guy sits 4 desks over at work, so I have no worry like I would if he was a stranger,etc.

Options
- If it was not merged into a battle.net you can merge it into yours, but it will get locked and ID requested
- if it was merged into a battle.net, I would throw a 7-day free trial on it and see what's good in the banks


It's pretty much worthless unless there's some good BOE items or you can convince him to marry you and share a last name. From there you can merge anything from his into yours (giggity)

My wife would probably cheer. He already put a trial on it and I will take a look tonight.

Remember the account is in his name, so make sure to get all the critical data in case the account gets locked (eg security questions/answers etc)

Having a 2nd account is useful, but can prove difficult to focus on one specifically - just try not to get too attached to the account, as you can never guarantee you wont lose it when you're not the original owner.

From my experience, it's surname; I could be wrong.
