Can't post in scam prevention - Need help with paypal, being scammed.

So, I sold 150$ in gold to a guy, he sent the money as a gift. He has filed for a chargeback on paypal via his credit card company. I have 10 days to respond .

    "

The buyer has filed a chargeback with his or her credit card company stating that the buyer did not authorize the payment.

The credit card company has reversed the payment, and we've placed a temporary hold on the funds while we review this case. If this transaction is covered by protection against unauthorized payments, we'll lift the temporary hold and restore the funds to your account. If the transaction is not eligible, we'll return the funds to the buyer or the rightful owner.

For this transaction to be covered by protection against unauthorized payments, please provide proof that you shipped the item through an approved shipper to the address on the Transaction Details page.

If the item is not a tangible good, this transaction is not eligible for protection against unauthorized payments. However, depending on the information you provide, we may be able to help you recover your funds by disputing the chargeback with the credit card company. Please provide us with information about your case. We'll let you know if we can dispute the chargeback with the credit card company.

Please respond within 10 days. Click Resolve Claim Now to continue.

    "

I am really nervous, and want to talk to you guys first before I say anything. How should I go about this and what should I say? I have no screenshots.

Edit- This was done through ingame and paypal gifts, not ebay or anything. So there's no chat logs or official purchase. Just a 150$ gift. I do not have his address or anything to spoof mailing him a physical item (is there a way to get this with just the gift transaction?)

Being a seller myself, you will never win a claim if he paid you with a credit card. Just move on, you'll waste your time & energy for nothing. Good luck and next time take precautions.

It doesn't matter if you have proof, screenshots or whatever. Credit card companies will always be able to reverse the funds.

Just general precautions such as trying to find out about the person you're selling gold to. Googling his paypal email / skype / IP tracer, etc..

    You'll almost always find something.

That's some bad luck mate. I am very vindictive in these situations. There are plenty of people on here who will help you mete out swift and divine retribution. Do you know his Warcraft character name? *ahem report a player *ahem

I used to sell to private Buyers, but then got scammed quite a few times. Just sell to Trusted resellers which have good rep. You may not get as much money/k but atleast you wont have to worry of getting scammed and it is like guaranteed cash.

Ya, it's a crappy situation for OP, but I cannot stress this enough. Unless you know the person personally, in RL, or a long-term trusted friend, you are more than likely going to get scammed. Yes, you may get lucky and find a real buyer, but real buyers tend to be extra cautious with who they buy from too and generally don't go to a private seller either. Reality is that you got screwed, it is gonna make you feel like crap, but the best thing you can do in life now is learn from it an move on and spare yourself the emotionally stress of something that you cannot change.

For all you know, this credit card chargeback is legit because the private buyer used a stolen credit card, which is often likely the case. Just move on. Sorry to hear. Good luck in the future and like others say, stick to trusted buyer intermediaries. Yes, you get less, but man, you'd have a whole lot more now if you went with them.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm definitely going to be more careful from now on... I'm trying something to dispute the chargeback right now, I'll let you know what I did / if it works afterwards.

Can you guys recommend any trustworthy buyers? I've sold to Pr3cious from this forum a few times when I was in dire need of cash, just curious if theres any others.

Check those who are buying on demand. Collect all of them on your skype list. And start selling your golds. Easy, and you still get like 0.5-0.6 per K.

A question for everyone @ Imagine this: What if, he recieved the 150$, and then sent the money instantly to his bank account. Is it possibel for a chargeback to be succefully this way?

No because his PayPal will have a negative balance. So even if he transferred the money, he will have to fund his paypal somehow to get rid of the negative balance.

As a seller myself, I found out that the best way to win disputes / chargebacks is by sending a "Money request" to the buyer & have him pay it. Because if you let the seller send you money, he will send it as friends / family / gift and there is no protection for the seller that way.

However, if you send a money request and have him pay it - then the buyer has no protection. He wont be eligible for protection since it's an intangible good / service.

I've had many chargebacks that way & won every single one of them within 10 minutes of being opened.

What if you sold a boost for example? Either "people I know" have been really lucky with the 50+ buyers they had or is it just when you purchase gold?
