I've been looking at the stuff with model editing, and I am wondering, is it all client side, and can you be banned for it?

It is all client side.
You can get banned when people see you while you do abnormal stuff, like walking under the terrain, flying around , walking through walls etc.
But if you're smart you'll never get caught !

if you are just doing real basic modelchanging (i.e. changing your own character model or a mining node or something) its not really enforced, however if you are removing walls in AQ40 to get past trash mobs, yes it is....
