Hello Fhm, here is a link witch may help you a little
How to Tell If a Paypal Payment is a Gift | Webupon
It explains how to tell the differences among a gift or normal payment.
When someone add you on skype or any messenger try Google their skype ID (not the name). IF he is a scammer and you are not his first victim you will find for sure him blacklisted on varios MMO selling sites and forums.
If you don't find any scammed people by him or one of his users banned on forums then proceed to step 2, ask them to post on OwnedCore or on the forum you are trading, and check carefully their started threads and posts and if anything smells bad like many people saying he is not safe ect try avoid

.
The next step will be the "tempting option". Usually most of scammers are idiots who will offer as much as you ask for large amounts of golds without negotiate at all or just a little. If you are dealing with such person i strongly suggest to not deal.
Another thing you may look is the number of the person contacts, by pressing "view Profile" on his skype name not only you can see his skype ID but also the number of contacts he have, and lets be honest most of the people have at least 20-30 people. If the dude have 1-5 contacts obviously is a possible scammer making more and more new skype ID's since his main skype or past skype addresses are already on the forums ^^
There is a way to hide such detail but if someone hide this he do it maybe for this reason and then it may be a smart scammer. Also if he is "smart" he will first add 20-30-40 contacts b4 he start attempt to scamm people, but again we speak about "smart thiefes" and most of them will not do this since like i said they are or to lazy to do that or to morons.
Remember scammers can claim unauthorized transaction even in the Gift case, but the risk is maybe lower. To have some chances against "unauthorized transactions claims" send the buyer an e-mail and ask him to confirm his real name, his PP account, his mail address and the fact he decided to
Gift you that amount of money and he will not charge back them at any moment or for any reasons.
If the guy you are dealing with have some good rep or positive feedback score he may actually think you are the scammer if you proceed like this so carefully who you ask this, so just verify the mail but
don't ask for all steps in these cases.
I don't know how much this will raise your chances in a unfortunately dispute, but for sure it will scare most of the scammers to deal with you since once again i repeat this "most of them are thanks to God idiots or scared f...s"
Also keep mind even if this method with mail verification wont help, many scammers may use stolen PayPal accounts and they may have the PP but not the mail yet. At least you will avoid those kind of attempts ...
To stay away from even more troubles mail verification is recommended but not so necessary as PP even on MB, if we talk about huge amounts and those buyers have low rep/feedback (depending on forums).
These methods will not make you stay on the safe barricade 100 % but at least you will greatly reduce the risks.
I hope my guide could help you a little my friend, i really wish you GL with this because luck is also involved when you try to find costumers, and remember "be smart, trade safe"
