Do "un-ban" services actually work?

It seems unrealistic but I've never dealt with anything to do with them.

For example, there was a massive ban wave at the beginning of Cata for the Archaeology bot in which I lost my account, would an un-ban service be able to get this unbanned?

And just normal bans, un-bot related, do they work at all?

These "un-ban" services are done by social engineering.

Basically the people just have practice at emailing or phoning Blizzard and giving them some sob story that is believable enough to get the account unbanned. Normally you'll have to give the service provider some basic information about yourself (so that they can appear to be you when talking to Blizzard) such as your name, location, account name (not password obviously) etc.

I know that they can definitely work -- Blizzards 'ban' policy is generally considered to be a joke compared to most other games. I have personally known a couple people that have gotten perma-banned accounts unbanned using such methods. So it can be worth trying.

If you're really young and/or not good at speaking to people or lying then it's generally a good idea to seek one of the experienced un-ban services as they typically can provide proof/user-feedback of their success record and know how to work the system.

Make no mistake however, there's no "hack" being used here, and there's also no guarantees.
