Tom Chilton, lead designer at Blizzard, explained in an interview at PC Gamer.com, that World of Warcraft will most likely become free in the near future. There are many reasons they might do this, considering the fact that almost every MMO is going free-to-play, so why wouldn’t WoW? Well, of course, that doesn’t mean that the game will go completely free, as in other cases, you might need to buy your mounts with real money and so forth. Nevertheless, this is indeed suprising news.
Tom explained PC Gamer that Blizzard will most likely adopt the free-to-play model, the general MMO trending and the competition. The most interesting part, if you ask me, is what will happen with the next MMO from Blizzard. It won’t be released soon, but if they go free, that means that their next MMO will go free and that surely means the beginning of a new era in MMO’s worldwide.
