Not gonna go free to play anytime soon. They're raking in millions upon millions..
So lets do some simple math:
Last subscription count BEFORE WoD was around 7 million people. With WoD coming out its more..
But lets just SAY for some reason its only 5 million subs. So im being very generous when i lowered the number by 2 million.
So its 5,000,000 * 15 /per month = 75,000,000 per month
75,000,000 * 12(yearly income) = 900,000,000
Would you give up almost a billion dollars to go F2P? Only an idiot would. This is their cash cow. This isn't gonna go F2P for a VERY LONG time.
And buying gametime with gold DOES NOT = F2P. I bet they're gonna make the cost of a monthly service in gold absurd. Like the Alliance bike. Can anyone really afford to pay 100,000 gold each month? Hell is it even worth paying that? Id rather sell my 100k in dollars and just pay for my monthly sub and still keep some money.
Not to mention Chris Metzen already said in November, they're planning 10 more years of XPACS(roughly 4 or 5) before they call it quits.
Fact? Show me
cause of the micro transactions.
just like newer game apps for your phone, most are free but makes plenty of money from the micro transactions.
I know a lot of companies make a lot of cash of F2P games with micro transactions and premium stuff, but I would love to see a comparison of a F2P game, as popular as WoW in terms of subscribers vs. micro transaction payers. Blizzard are one of the biggest MMO and RPG companies that has existed in almost 24 years (come 8th of February). If F2P with micro transactions was more profitable, they would probably have went with that method quite a while ago.
This shit has been in the client for months and has the same restrictions as trial accounts. WOW isn't going free to play any time soon. Sorry folks!
Not sure if trolling or not. There is a guess from Forbes on the Money which f2p games do make:
As you can see, WoW is 7th with microtransactions alone.
If WoW has 5Mio subs, they are making 1,1 billion each year.
If WoW has 10Mio subs, they are making 2 billions each year.
Ontopic: If somebody thinks WoW will go f2p in the next 2-3 years, than this person is a retard. A plain and simple retard.
Nuff said. ^
Which shows that their subscriptions earn them more than Crossfire and League does with their f2p micro transactions. So no reason to go over to it when they already partly got it along with their subscriptions. And the F2P games don't earn more than Blizzard does with P2P. Busted sed-.
xcureanddisease's post is exactly why i keep posting on blizz forums asking devs to ignore people that say that people will stop buying months with money and will only do with gold... Most people are just too dimwitted to realise how the token system works and that blizz will make more money OR EXACTLY THE SAME AMMOUNT(if not even 1 single person uses it ever), but not LESS... I wish more people would be economically litterate on how inflation/demand work as well :/
On the topic... Blizz are flexible, but there is no need to make a game like wow free to play when the opposite works so well
It's funny how no one is talking about the subject in this topic but argue how f2p is bad or good, wow is not going f2p, they are making a new type of account, veteran, the rest you can read in main post.
