How-to Kill Hogger, a COMPLETE Guide
Greetings everyone! It's been a little while since I've posted, being on vacation and all, so I've decided to create an in-depth analysis of the Hogger quest. It can be accomplished in either 10 or 25 man raid, however, for the sake of simplicity I will discuss the 10 man approach. If needed, the same tactics can be applied to a 25 man build up. If you are very experienced it is possible to 5 man or 2 man Hogger (with a healer), but similar to the old days of Onyxia, it takes very, very long and is very risky. In the past (prior to WoTLK and TBC) Hogger was only conquerable with the use of a 40-man raid, however, with the rapid progression in gear, this is no longer necessary.

a) BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Hogger is a level 11 elite. He is the chieftain of the Riverpaw Gnolls in Southern Elwyn Forest. He is an indirect agent of the Defias Brotherhood, also appearing in the Stormwind Stockade from time to time. Hogger has earned the reputation for being one of the most difficult, it not the most difficult, encounters to date. He is usually the fist elite mob that a human will meet, and he is almost always the last thing they see before he gouges out their eyes. If anyone needed any further indication of his menace, he has 666 health; number of the beast.
At one point time, there was a problem with birth control in Azeroth. Pip-squeak adventurers were popping up everywhere, wanting to claim glory for themselves. It became a serious issue when all these new-comers started biting into the well established economy. Merchants were scrambling to produce enough goods to supply the young adventurers, and while this ever-increasing market provided a huge short-term economic gain, eventually the bubble burst. Merchants were left starving, and they couldn't even hunt for their own food because all the young adventurers were killing the boars in order to level.
Finally the Stormwind government had enough. For years, Hogger had been terrorizing his corner of Elwyn Forest. Many a brave soldier had been lost in an attempt to remove him from what he believed to be his rightful throne. Stormwind, capitalizing upon the surplus of naive adventurers, and Hogger's extreme ferocity, posted a bulletin advertising a quest to kill Hogger. The reward: insatiable glory, many a female night elf companion, vast riches, endless booze, the usual. Of course Stormwind never expected anybody to actually kill Hogger, and their expectation proved accurate. Hogger, to this day, still prowls his corner of Elwyn, only now, the floor of the forest is littered with the bones of the young adventurers.
Once this problem was solved, there still lay the problem of how to dispose of Hogger. The quest remains active, and any adventurer who feels they are brave or strong enough can accept it.
b) THE QUEST
In order to obtain the Hogger quest you must visit the Wanted Poster at the garrison bordering Elwyn and Westfall. Talk to it, and it will give you Wanted: "Hogger". As part of the quest you must kill Hogger and obtain from him a Huge Gnoll Claw. You need to be at least level 5 to accept the quest. The Huge Gnoll Claw drops for all party members.
Excerpt of the quest, from WoWhead:
Be very careful when accepting the quest, Hogger has been know to kill things in real life.Wanted: Hogger
A huge gnoll, Hogger, is prowling the woods in southwestern Elwynn. He has overpowered all attempts at his capture.
The Stormwind Army has placed a generous bounty on the Gnoll. To earn the reward, bounty hunters should bring proof of Hogger's demise to Marshal Dughan in Goldshire.
c) RAID COMPOSITION
Okay so you accepted the quest to kill Hogger, good work. Now we need to build up your 10 man group. Generally speaking, you want 2 tanks (one main and one OT), 3 healers, and 5 DPS. You will want a balance of melee and caster DPS, I would say 2 of one and 3 of the other. You want 1 dedicated healer for the tanks, a priest preferred, and 2 other on raid. One of these two healers should alternate between the tank and the raid as needed. These can be the class of your choice. The raid composition is very similar to VoA 10, so use that as your guide. Once I go into the actual fight you can decide which class is more suitable for your purpose.
d) LOCATION
Now that you have your raid let's go find Hogger, he is located in Southern Elwyn Forest.
If you can't find it follow the trail of blood, gore, bones etc. Generally screams are a surefire way to pinpoint his position. Before you reach him there is some trash, do NOT rush into the trash, I've seen tons of raids fall apart because people are too impatient to wait. Take ONE at a time, they don't seem like much but they pile up very quickly. Hogger patrols the highlighted area on the map, be VERY alert not to pull him accidentally while you are fighting the trash.
e) THE FIGHT (tactics etc.)
Okay you've cleared most of the trash, time to take him on. Rush in, the tanks should switch aggro as they start taking more damage. Melee dps should be attacking hogger from the rear. If adds wander into the fight, which they will, collect them with the OT, all dps needs to switch to the adds immediately, keeping some heals on the tank. The ads take the form of Gnolls, like so:
For dps should stick together in clumps due to the nature of the fight. The OT needs to be very alert as well, I would recommend a macro that calls a switch.
/rw SWITCH NOW YOU IDIOTS
Something to that effect
Now Hogger has some abilities you should be aware of, and respond to accordingly.
1. Head butt
5 yd range—Stuns an enemy, rendering it unable to move or attack for 2 sec. Instant. When this happens the OT needs to grab aggro.
2. Pierce Armor
Melee range—Reduces an enemy's armor by 50% for 20 sec. Instant (45 sec cooldown). When this happens either switch to the OT, or focus all heals on the tank.
3. Rushing Charge
Increases the caster's movement speed by 60% for 3 sec. and causes it to inflict an additional 10 damage on its first attack. Instant (5 sec cooldown). Consider this a mini-enrage, heals should focus on the tank.
4. Enrage
If you don't down him in 5 minutes he goes into enrage, from wowwiki:
Yea... srs bsnsEnrage abilities
* Hogger's blast- Blasts a random target 40,000 km (circumference of the earth). Player has control over left/right movement during this knockback. If the player hits anything on the way, it deals (80k - distance traveled) damage. This will kill a player if he hits anything, and he/she will be too far away from the group for a rez. The damage on landing is large too, but a fully geared tank can survive with less than 10 health left if you are lucky.
* Rage of Hogger- Passive. Any non-crit attack that hits Hogger procs Hogger's Rage, dealing twice the damage of the non-crit and spawning 3 embodiments of <insert damage type of non-crit here>, which have health equal to 5 times the non-crit and dealing a 3.0 speed melee dealing the exact damage of the non-crit. Note: if non-crit was physical, spawns Brute embodiments instead.
f) General Tips
Make sure your tanks know when to switch, watch for adds and enrage, and for the love of god defend your healers when the adds spawn. Alternatively
