Aye, but it was my understanding that you could only link and item on your server if it has been aquired by someone already. So can someone please just make a level 1 on that realm and try it out. If the link comes up good then it seems legit.

Made an alt on the server, it can't be linked. The guy is lying.
If I would have a US account I would check it immediately :P
consider this - maybe item was removed in the hotfix few hours ago and that's the reason it cant be linked, it seems likely that item would be removed from game in this hotfix to prevent this whole event from repeating.
Made an alt also.
No go.
The World of Warcraft Armory
He does have it. Mouse over the shirt slot. "Error Reading Tooltip" and if you click it, you get linked to an item with the ID of 17.

Well... That is ****ed up.
You can't link it if the person is offline, the item needs to be available on the server to parse the information from the available source, if that warrior is not online it can't be linked.
I just noticed that too...
Who put water in the plot?
...the plot has unthickened.
omg epic find! item id 17! same as in link Martin Fury - Items - WOWDB - the item id for martin fury is 17!
so the story is true after all, and my assumption about item being deleted in hotfix was probably correct
edit: or item just cant be linked while he is offline as also stated

omg, true! Martin Fury - Items - WOWDB is ID 17!
Was a good nights work guys, conspiricy as it happens. Atleast we can all tell our grandchildren the story of Martin Fury.
I've had a char on there for about a year now a lvl 14 rogue i used to run around with some friends on in the whole time there I've seen the guy mabey 10 times, and never seen any of his guild members, I've inspected him cause warrior gear looks cool :P and he's never worn it so I'm calling bullshit on the item
I'm honestly disturbed that I actually noticed it. It seemed like such an unlikely event that I completely overlooked it. This is simply ridiculous. The matter of what will happen to it will determine what happens to the participants of the guild that attended the raids.
