Apoc, I mean it when I say this, but I have a ton of respect for you dude.

Rep those that deserve it!
Love you dad <3
But in all seriousness, Apoc is so right on so many levels with this. Even if they do take Apoc to court AND WIN, he can sue them right back for invasion of privacy laws.
wut?
How they hell can he sue them for invasion of privacy? They sent (I assume) formal emails to various people, requesting information. That's not invasion of privacy. He has a case against people that released his information without permission, but not against Blizzard.
hmmm...This is rather interesting, I'll keep my eye out and report if anyone I know was contacted by Blizz
Wow, this is pretty bad. I guess they just want to use the ruling as a powerful scare tactic. It seems like they're calling pretty much anyone related to a bot and throw the ruling in their face, in an attempt to get get people who are administrating certain aspects of a bot (community, development, etc.) to stop, as a way to try and completely wipe botting from WoW. I don't see why it's all that necessary though if they successfully contact the owners of the bot.
Hopefully you won't actually get a phone call from Blizzard, Apoc.

Apoc u playing on EU servers with hunter name apoc or apocx?
They probably call you instead of emailing because you m8 dont give half of shit to read or answer.
How much time did u put in to code your bot?
Why don't you just working on another project to make your money?
Anyhow I'm not on their side and there are no bullshiting like this usually in Europe.
Isn't this a rough business? Wow changed a lot and I doubt too many people want to buy bots nowadays.
Would you consider McDonald's to be a rough business? I mean, they've been sued several times...Isn't this a rough business? Wow changed a lot and I doubt too many people want to buy bots nowadays.
Anyways, I know that there are a horde of people willing to pay for bots.

PHWOOOOAAAAAR - Parog was here. <3 <----Wtf's a Parog?
Stealing mail is a federal crime. Asking people to voluntarily surrender information isn't.
I don't agree with what Blizzard is doing, but that's no reason to lose objectivity. They're operating completely inside the law and I'm sure the lawyers they have on their payroll make sure of it. It may be shady and underhanded but it's not illegal.

Sounds like a lot of amateur lawyers posting opinions for which they lack the legal background to back up - especially on the Blizzard forums. You may feel like they're invading your privacy but what they're doing with regards to asking for contact information is no different than if I walked up to your next door neighbor and asked them what time you were home each day and what your phone number was. Yeah it's pretty creepy, and hopefully your neighbor would tell me to shove off, but there's nothing illegal about me asking them. They're simply asking your internet 'neighbors' for the same sort of information and being a bully about asking it. Is what they're doing nice? Absolutely not. But in their opinion and at least for now in the opinion of the legal system what you've done is equivalent to stealing from them. And they're using all legal means necessary to reclaim their stolen property. At least until a ruling from the 9th CCA they're on the side of the angels here.
I'm not arguing the merits of either side of the case. I'm not a lawyer nor do I profess to be one. I'm simply stating that in the eyes of the law asking for information - even threatening legal action if you don't get it - is not illegal. Stealing intellectual property however IS illegal and right now it's been determined that MDY stole Blizzard's intellectual property and that case seems on point toward any future cases Blizzard brings against other bot developers.
Personally I'd like to see this go to the Supreme Court. One way or the other it would be nice to see this as settled law and either the company's provided with the teeth necessary to shut down intellectual property theft or the company's making these bots allowed to develop their applications without fear of legal reprisals. This legal limbo helps neither side.
