couple of things no a 1gb won;t work, the wow install is something like 5/6gb, hence why the ipod is a good idea. The ipod is also good because is can connect via firewire rather than usb which is slower.

deadbanana, either your school is REALLY ****ing shit or your a retard, the firewall you are talking about is the internal windows firewall which is part of the service pack 2 security centre, any decent network will have a internet gateway, for instance we use ISA server at work which is locked down tighter than a monkeys chuff. Other options are a Linux installation which acts as a cache server which whould also mean it would be able to setup internet rules etc or if it's a UK education body it's more than likley they have an inty server (look for a lil orange man with his hands in the air in the system tray next to the clock).

The internal windows firewall HAS to be turned off to network machines to any kind of windows 2000/2003 server or it can't authenticate against kerberos/Active Directory or resolve it's host name against DNS which renders it useless & about as much use as a large lump of cheese shaped as a door wedge!


As I mentioned in my earlier post, WoW is actually very cleverly programmed so it creates it's registry values & insertion points on running therefore you can just click, drag & copy the directory to the external HDD or iPod.

But on a side note, If your school, college or anywhere else is upgradeing to Vista (like we are) you may find that they are going to use one of the new features in Vista & lock the registry to only be writable to power users & above (bit like Unix & Mac OS X super user/god user idea)

why as I said before, just run it off the XD card, it's fast enough, & if ur THAT desperate to run wow at school run it on min requirments most schools will be fine unless ur at a really shit school.


As for doing this on a mac you would install it on your own mac first update etc etc etc THEN copy it to your external HDD or iPod & run from it. Macs are notoriously strict about accessing different stuff so it might not work as it has to make a directory in "/library/application\ support/" with all it's shit in, I have this locked under chmod 775 & chown root:domain_admins (basically means read write execute permissions for all domain admins & nothing for anyone else) this stops unauthorised modifications etc

again ask anything I'm sure if I don't know I'll find it out pretty damn quickly for you

I can speak personaly for the schools in arizona.. all the computers cant run wow and the only protection they have for internet use is website restricting. Also a thing called deepfreeze which is just a restore point the computers go to every time you restart it. my school seems to employ subpar network managers

If you actually want to install WoW on the computer you would need the administrator password. Due to the folks at (www.loginrecovery.com) that isn't really a problem depending on the strength of the password. If the computer can even run WoW, you will have to deal with installing the beast (if your doing it at a public school, there aren't enough hours in the day), and even if you do manage to get it installed, the patching will take just as long. Also, the real administrator would delete WoW as soon as they see it, making all the time that you just put in making it work wasted, also they (if they have any common sense at all) will change the password, and again, you would need to do that again... putting the WoW folder on an iPod would work the best though, because USB drives are on most computers, its tough to regulate them, and you leave no physical trace of WoW on the computer itself.

1) that password recovery won't work on any decent machine, I personally password every bios with a password + the computer number & then change the boot device priority to be the internal hard disk ONLY stops idiots trying what you just mentioned!

2) yes a USB drive or iPod would be perfect but your wrong, a) 99% of machines will have the launch of WoW in their events viewer & if they are using a windows 2003 server this is stored as a log PER USER. also WoW makes several registry keys on launch aswell as a number of tempory files & other crap so it's blatently tracable, not obvious! but very tracable!

again people DO NOT INSTALL WoW on the machines just copy the WoW directory to an iPod or other removable flash media) & run from that!

i play wow in my science class i brought my laptop to school and theres a internet connection neer my desk were the class comp used to be and i just hook my laptop to it and make sure my teacher cant see me and walla im on and theres a power cord . soo it like perfect place 4 me but i got cought like a month ago and my teacher saw it i was like noooooo so he made me switch seats .

if your in college u would likely have a laptop with you nowadays so you could just play it in class if you wanted to (thats what my cousin does). At my high school they restrict any downloads unless ur an administrator. Even though my school itself is really nice and new, it has crap cpus (worse than the middle school at our town) so i probably couldnt play it even if I could dl it

Im sorry but cracking bios pass or using master bios pass is prolly the most simple thing you can do. You should know that as a network admin.

regarding wow on your ipod im just in the middle of transferring wow from my computer to my ipod nano, ive tryed running such mmorpg games like ff11 and Gunz online on my college computer but the firewall and an internet safty shit thing called Ranger stops me from connecting to the games servers. hopefully i can create a proxy for wow and bypass the stupid freaking Ranger.
