The Flight Continues - Raid Instance Explorations

The Silver Covenant called Trokair back to the skies on the White Hippogryph.
This time he was asked to catalog the sights of the Raid Instances...

Love it. You've got some really nice shots in here, and I'm really enjoying the artistic style of your latest videos. Works a treat! Like Satori, I love the footage of the airship/flyingallianceboatsillything at the beginning - pity it's not solid. Would be cool to just perch on it, like a wizardly boss.

Sadly, as is inevitable, I must spread the reputation around. When I have, I'll add it to the ever-growing list of 'damn fine explorers I should really rep'.

I'm likely completely alone in this sentiment, but all of these videos are very disheartening. It makes me wonder why anybody would explore using any method other than this one, and it demeans(?) or overshadows the time and effort others have put into getting to these or similar places. Sure, I could spend hours wall jumping up Kezan's volcano, but the achievement of getting to the top is dampened when I see someone fly up in ten seconds. I could wall jump, disengage, and glide my way up and over to the Dalaran in End Time, but you can just soar up there and back before I even reach the base of the mountain. Top of Utgarde Keep and Dire Maul walls? Just fly. This whole thing just feels...too similar to going onto a private server and using the GM flight command.

Please do not mistake my tone for one of anger, sarcasm, snark, detest, or condemnation. The closest word in my vocabulary for my attitude on this is dejection. But Trokair, I do appreciate the effort put into this and have given you the rep that I can. You've shown us places we might otherwise have never seen throughout WoW's lifetime, the production quality was fantastic, and I know that this was all done with the best of intentions. I see that this has invigorated some and reinvigorated others to go explore this crazy world we all love and hate.

I hold no contempt or ire towards you, anyone involved, or those who choose to use this method themselves. The overwhelming positive reaction to this shows me that my stance is probably not justified. And even though what I'm about to say goes against the thoughts of everyone else and likely the spirit of this community, the majority of me hopes that this gets fixed sooner, rather than later.

I agree with you in most aspects of what you said, because it is, unfortunately, true. However, I feel as though using this glitch is a whole separate entity of exploration when it comes to uncovering secrets, meaning everything done with this glitch it put into a separate room and, though receiving acknowledgment for the feats being done, is seen as being in a separate league than the methods of conventional explorers. I've enjoyed all these videos, and all videos using this method, because I have seen wondrous things that I would not have seen otherwise, but I have seen those things because of this glitch, they are locations and sights seen from the eyes of this particular glitch.

I am, personally, rather against using such methods for exploration (however, research purposes are perfectly fine) due to the fading stability of the method, where such a tool could be fixed at any moment. However, I love watching explorers use different methods to show us that there are so many darkened areas of the map, we just need new tools to help uncover those areas. Using this glitch to reach the top of Utgarde Keep or fly high reach the Deadmine's Secret would be a bit disheartening, but it is explorations like the ones Trokair is doing now that is tapping into the full potential of this glitch, exploring areas that are otherwise impossible to explore (the floating bank beneath Kezan, though not entirely Trokair's exploration, comes to mind instantly.) I disagree with your last statement of hoping that it is fixed sooner than later because I would love to see more of these hidden places that cannot be reached through conventional exploration (even though at the same time I would, to my selfish desire, love to see these areas uncovered through heroic and challenging endeavors, but that is sometimes impossible to do, so these methods are used.)

I take no offense, Prinnygod! I completely understand the sentiment behind your comments.
This is one of the main reasons I do not release the method publicly. I would never want to see explorers just flying around everywhere... in lieu of real exploration.

This is why I stayed away from these locations (Dalaran in End Time, Kezan's volcano, the top of Utgarde Keep, etc) in my film. I really focused on areas that are mostly impossible to reach without using this method. And for the few locations shown that can be reached traditionally (for instance, the floating rocks in Black Temple, or the highest mountain in Stormstout Brewery), you'll notice that I always tried to show myself there on foot (often with Fishing Chair or Jeeves beside me to "prove" the live aspect). Please note that I cannot dismount from the White Hippogryph. If you see me "on foot", I got there the traditional way. The flight glitch is definitely not to be seen as a substitute for a difficult wall-climb, which of course is its own reward. The intent of this series is simply an artistic look at areas rarely or never seen.

My Deadmines and Siege of Orgrimmar videos simply do not fit in with the defense listed above, as both of those videos really show places that can be reached by traditional means...
I had already recorded the footage, and then those areas were cut from the main film for time constraints (video was already 45 min long). I honestly should have just scrapped the footage. My ego took over, and rather than see the files go to waste, I released them as a stand-alone videos. So again, I can see where Prinny is coming from. But I repeat that it is never my intention to use this glitch as a substitute for reaching something traditionally.

The next video (Ulduar) will be the final video in this series.

Oh wow reading back it looks as though I was undermining your videos, which I wasn't and now feel embarrassed about. I was just listing random, well-known places off the top of my head. I know all too well that you are able to reach those places on your own. Adding a different perspective to an exploration can make all the difference, as seen in the majority of your explorations. I just meant that one who has never explored before or is only using this method to explore hurts my soul a bit.

For the record, the glitch I used to reach the floating bank underneath Kezan has nothing to do with the glitch Trokair has utilized in his "Flight" series. Carry on!

A final point I'd like to add to the discussion above... All of the "flight" series contains a heck of a lot more than just flying. Much of the footage was reached by the 'old-fashion' ways, and I hope that isn't lost among the focus on the flight.

Especially this latest (and last) video in the series. Insane climbs...
Thanks and credit go to Dellion for the many of the paths (where the hell is he?), Cashrock aka Dovah Gaming for the time and expertise (and for discovering the portal! You guys gotta go find this thing...), and to the mysterious Gastby for constant guidance and support. Music is by the Hackney Colliery Band. Some of you may remember the tune.
    Enjoy!

Oh that was awesome! A whole bunch of Ulduar I've never seen before. Including, but not limited to, that instance portal and the area shown around 2:04. Really great video! Did that song sample that old song "No diggity" lol? +Rep to you and to Dovah when I can!

EDIT: Oh and good question, Where the hell is Dellion these days?

I've been following ALL of your series, and they all amaze me. It's not only the exploration aspect that's awesome, it's the way you record the scenery and the neat areas you don't see on an average journey. One things for sure, you're dominating this whole section. Whether it's using dark moon tigers, wall jumping, or even flying mounts in instances...it's still phenomenal exploration and you're doing it the most enjoyable way. +Rep as soon as It allows me buddy.
