[Project] The Beyond the Portals Expedition

Hey guys, Strangletusk here with the long-awaited (by the people who knew about it anyway :P ) The Beyond the Portals Expedition - a huge project with the premise of showing every 'behind the instance portal' type area in the entire World of Warcraft. I've decided to do Part 1, and intend for the others to be similarly edited, as a movie/tutorial, so that you could just watch them for enjoyment, or use the spots I've included that show nearby places to get under the world to get into these areas for yourself.

For this project, portals (and their associated uninstanced area) will only be included if they don't fall into any one of these 3 categories:

    1. They have no actual area behind the portal (eg. Violet Hold)

    2. They can be reached by normal means, for example, by just flying over the portal (eg. Ahn'Qiraj, Shadowfang Keep etc.)

    3. I can't find a way/ it's impossible/ I'm still working on it (eg. the Tempest Keep instances...complete nightmare)

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the project!

    Videos in project
Part 1: Eastern Kingdoms and the Maelstrom
    Part 2: Kalimdor
    Part 3: Outland
    Part 4: Northrend
    Part 5: Battlegrounds

    Well done, Strangletusk!

If you got a warrior you could try out my tactic of getting beyond the portals as you see in my video on http://www.ownedcore.com/forums/worl...lme-4-3-a.html ([Uninstanced] Stratholme 4.3)
I have only tried it in Stratholme, CoT and GB, but only Strat worked, but there are so many instances in the game!

    +rep!

Cheers for the feedback! Unfortunately my warrior is only the mid 40s in terms of level so doesn't have heroic leap However, if blink might work too then that's awesome, since my mage is levelling quite nicely atm

I've actually already recorded all of the footage for the project, save Magister's Terrace (and I've totally given up for now on Tempest Keep), so I shouldn't need to record anything else. The standard mount-through-walls - under the world - fly in has worked pretty much every single time. Thanks for the suggestion though man!

    Thanks!

Ahh do not fear! Glitching through walls is only nerfed, as opposed to fixed, so it's still possible to do this - albeit with a different method of glitching through walls (involving a disconnect macro/mushroom chair trick).

And anyway, all of the clips for the videos in this series are already filmed - all I have to do is make the videos

I have been waiting a long time for this project to be completed. I watched all 23 minutes and thought it was phenomenal. I was surprised at the amount of these that I have not been to myself.

What an amazing amount of work that went into the recording and editing of this video. I can't thank you enough for sharing this with the community. This, and Dellion's 'Unknown Side of the World' project, should be sticky threads in the Exploration Forum. Together they show 'both sides of the portals', so to speak, and are an inspiration to explorers everywhere that not everything has been seen.

+4 rep... I wish I could give you more. Thank you, StrangleTusk!

Thanks very much for the very nice feedback man! I agree that the Dellion's similar project, Unknown Side of the World, should be stickied just because it's so damn useful - hopefully once this project is finished people will find it similarly useful for if they want to explore these type of 'uninstanced' areas.

All I can really say Trokair is stay tuned...there's still 4 videos in the series to come!

    Love it
That's typically the sort of things i do on my private server because it's a lot easier and i don't have to find ways to access them.
I really liked the stonecore and throne of tides ones, too bad you didn't record an exploration of the entire zones because they're really beautiful but it would have been too long..
Thanks for the compil, and yeah this thread and dellion's one deserve a sticky.

    +5 rep for you

Hey guys, Part 2 of the Expedition, featuring the instance portals for Kalimdor, is now in my main post here in this thread for your viewing (hopefully) pleasure.

It's also quite nice, as it's possibly the last exploring video of the year - certainly mine anyway :P

    Anyways, enjoy!

Haha yeah I suppose I am - though since I'm on holiday I have very little else to do atm. Each video takes about a day to edit, then about a further half day to find appropriate music for it and editing that, then about 6-12 hours, depending on length, to upload. So I can get a video out every 2 days if needed, though obviously, I take breaks inbetween making them

It took a while due to various internet problems in uploading it, but finally, a week on from Part 2, Part 3: Outland, is now finished and on my channel. I've added it to the bottom of the original post, and hopefully you'll like it! It features the 'beyond the portal' explorations for every applicable instance in Outland, except the Tempest Keep dungeons and raid - they sadly, have eluded me and I'm still searching for a method.

If you have any insight on these particular instances or just want to comment, then feel free! All constructive feedback and advice is appreciated here

    Anyways, enjoy!
