On my US realm, I definitely leave Teldrassil after only a few invisible walls. On my realm, you definitely can't use the Flying Broom once you are in an Unknown zone.

...but we've got multiple reports from multiple people, in this thread and in my YouTube comments... saying it works fine on their realms. It doesn't seem to be a function of US vs. EU server, as we've got multiple reports with both results on either side of the pond...

Is it possible that a "hotfix" has hit certain realms and not others? Has that happened before?

Man... what is going on here!? I just can't put my finger on it... does anyone have any thoughts/theories on what might be the common denominator?

What I know is that it doesn't work in the live server I'm from, EU-Kael'thas (FR), but not because I can't use the broom in an unknown zone -- the error I get is "can't use that while moving", regardless of me being jumping around in Durotar or falling to death behind the blue wall.

EDIT : but as I said I could do it this morning on EU-Brill (PTR).

I think the answer could be this : when you go directly north-west you leave Teldrassil. But when you go north then west you don't, thus allowing you to do the broom-trick.
Behold now my amazing MS Paint skills, and stand still before their magnificence -->

This would explain the fact that some people can use the broom behind the walls while other can't. And, keep in mind, there are servers like mine where you just can't use the broom while moving (although it's instant).

But it's just an idea, maybe not the truth. Requires some testing.

Great paint skills.... +rep for the image... that will help us all to explain things!

Only...this diagram isn't true for my realm (Lightninghoof, US). As I stated previously, I now hit an Unknown zone after about the 6th invisible wall GOING STRAIGHT NORTH.... so around where your Northern red line angles to the Northwest.

Quick question for you... can you confirm you're using the Flying Broom, and not the Magic Broom? They are BOTH instant-cast broom mounts... but the MAGIC broom can't be used while falling... the FLYING broom can...

I think a lot of people are trying to use the Magic Broom... which would explain the broom issue completely... I don't think people realize that there are TWO instant-cast mounts. The Magic Broom wasn't always instant-cast... only since this year...

Here's a to-scale representation of the distance to GM island from my GM island world edit. The boxes have nothing to do with where you can or cannot fly. This represents the entire continent of Kalimdor.

I can confirm it works for me on Moon Guard-US.

I came down with idiots syndrome and blinked through one wall too many and now I got my character perma-stuck.

    +Rep to Wiz.

    After I spread ofcourse.

The flying broom hasn't dropped for my mage yet, and I've been doing it on other toons too with no dice still.... i'm starting to think they took it off the loot table for the halloween bag.

1st off... great posts everyone and thanks again to WizardTrokair for sharing.

I'm curious what everyone's opinion is on the possibility of banning based on this exploration. Not what has happened in the past, but specifically the possibility of being banned for doing this current exploit using the method only described in this thread. The thing that stuck out to me as a big red flag was when your character "discovers" GM Island. It seems like there could be a running process that detects any players discovery of this area and flags them for banning or suspension.

Unfortunately I am unable to enjoy this particular exploit myself because I am not a Mage. I do envy your blink ability even more now however. I wonder if I should just hit the PTR to try this out if possible?

    Your thoughts?

As for the banning... I think it can go either way.

I "discovered GM Island" when I arrived... first time really discovering it... and have yet to receive a ban for this exploration. But, as you can see from the video, I was there probably a total of 3 minutes... and got the free port to Westfall when I died...

...others, doing this same exploit from this thread (and posting response videos ITT and on my YouTube) show that they got banned when they started summoning other people to the Island, or when they went AFK and were eventually discovered by a GM.

So, IMO, yes you can of course get banned for this, but it is not automatic.

And yes, it has been reported somewhere (ITT, I think) that this works on the PTR.

For the bans in GM Island, it's "random".
If a GM sees you, you can be sure that you'll get at least a warning, but most likely a ban.

    I don't believe in this.
I have several characters on GM Island since July, never got anything.
A few weeks ago (before Hallow's End) I went there with my main character 5 times in an evening, "discovering" the zone at the same time, never got anything.

Basically, if no GM sees you while you're on the island, you're "safe".
(unless someone starts saying in the Trade Channel that you're in GM Island of course )

Thanks for the comments. Think I'll try this on the PTR as a Mage and save myself some potential headache, if there is any to be had at all. At least my real account will be spared in the event I'm busted.

I can say from my past experiences, the only way you'll ever get banned for being on GM island is if a GM is present there and they see you. That being said, they rarely go to the island, but if they do, you'll likely not see them. I've had toons there for months tho, and would level them thru BG's at times and nothing happened. To play it safe, I'd say stay on top of the house and don't type anything in chat.

Most people get caught for going there by doing stuff out of boredom - the place gets dull quick once you realize there's really nothing to do.... they put in tickets to piss off the GM's for fun or start inviting a bunch of buddies. Getting a suspension for going to GM island is likely a possibility, but getting banned is not, unless you've done a TON of other stuff. I've gotten caught by GM's twice and just took the 3 day suspension lol.

Blizz will never check if someone is on the gm island, they dont care
but if someone reports you you will instantly get a short ban

    I tried it myself.
I wrote a ticket that I'm on the gm island cause I wanna quit this game.
The gm appeared in front of me and baned me for just 24 hours. fu blizz -.-

now I'm standing 24/7 on gm island and nothing happens.
Furthermore I ported a couple of randoms to the island and nothing happens either.
