In the northern-half of the Eastern Kingdoms...
I'm just speaking for myself now:
I would be far more encouraged if you would tell us a general hint about the location (i.e. "this is dwarven architecture" or "this is inside a pillar of a building") instead of telling us where to search for something we don't know. I don't even know where to start, from first sight I would say this is something near Karazhan, on second sight I would say the general feeling I have about this is the same as in Scholomance but when I think more about it, it could be literally anything and anywhere.
Remember the titan ruins in water a few weeks ago? This was an awesome challenge in my opinion. Everybody knew what to search for (especially after talking so much in this thread) but didn't know where it was. Here you are telling me on which continent it is and all I have is a color to search. I don't know anything about this place besides its color and that it is enclosed space and you are stuck in the ground. Honestly, I have no idea.
Long story short: Encourage me to search for that location and don't just say where it is without letting anyone know what to search for. =)

As I see it the thing that gives us "What to search for" is the pic itself. We don't need to know that "this is dwarven architecture" because that wont help us at all. It could be dwarven architecture stolen by the horde, and being held in a gigantic chest inside a cave... It could be that there was a tsunami and it got pushed to somewhere else. This game has had an awful lot of expansions and it now has a ton of lore. The only thing we can tell for sure is that it's a door, and it's location.. I mean, yeah sure, he could tell us something like "look for a big stone nose" or something like that, but in that case it'd be more of a search than an exploration (there's a difference)
This is a challenge, not a game of hide and seek.
(sorry if I sound a bit aggressive. No harm intended ^^)
I kinda agree with you. This would be a hide-and-seek game if I post a screenshot of me next to a tree in Ashenvale and the challenge is to post a screenshot of the same location. The picture should definitely tell us "what to search for". So it was in many other exploration pictures. This peculiar picture doesn't show me what to search for though. It shows me the inside of a room that is obviously locked by a door. It could be anything from the outside.
And, to be honest, I don't find it funny and enjoyable to fly above eastern kingdoms and glitch into every brown-dark-looking object I see. As I said, that's just my opinion.
Kaldonir, what you propose is exceedingly more difficult to do with a game like this that has gone on for 60+ pages. Perhaps in the beginning it would have been easier, but at this point it is tough to put up a shot like you describe and not have it solved by OwnedCore's expert explorers within minutes. The thread would become child's play.
I fully admit, my focus with this thread is shots that people already know, as in, "oh, I've been in that chamber before"... not things that people can fly around and find, like that last good Titan ruins challenge. I think Dellion and many others that post do the same... assuming that one of the expert explorers will recognize a particular texture or chamber and solve the riddle. My intention was not for people to fly around and figure this out.
I do feel your pain though, and will do better to make shots that you can "look around for" in the future. I did not intend to be elitist with my posting ITT, but you have shown me that I have become that way. Thanks for bringing this up.
Look in the Western Plaguelands and you will find what you seek...

Well that's why we have your thread, righthttp://www.ownedcore.com/forums/worl...e-edition.html ([Challenge] Master of Exploration (Hard Mode Edition!))
The great problem I see with shots like your last one or most of Dellion's (and to be honest most of the recent pics) is that it's a simple "know the spot or suck it". Maybe it was because I didn't have much experience with exploration but the first challenges I tried to solve encouraged me to go out into the world or some instance and search for it, I was encouraged to do an exploration. With the recent challenges it's more a game of "hey, do I know the spot? if yes, go there and take a picture. if no, wait for someone to solve it." To be fair, many of those challenges I saw when I came to this forum were like that. But when nobody could solve it in a reasonable time I still was able to search for the spot. (i.e. the root thing in instanced thousand needles of razorfen kraul //edit: I just remembered, this was after a useful hint was posted )
I am totally okay with the fact that people who know the spot of the challenge have an advantage above the others. What's just frustrating in my opinion is that if nobody can solve it, there is just no clue on where to search.
This situation can be avoided I think if the hints are screenshots like in Dellion's recent Karazhan challenge (I think it was Karazhan, didn't have much time these days) That is a lot more helpful than just stating "The needle is in the left half of the haystack!".
So it's not really this picture which has been too hardcore, only your hints haven't been helpful at all to those who didn't know what this is
Edit: And now I will stop derailing this thread into a discussion about itself =)

I remember a time when this thread would go WEEKS before anyone would solve a challenge... nowadays it seems people are asking for hints if a challenge isn't solved within three days.
"Know the spot, or suck it"... exactly! I always thought of this thread as a challenge for experienced explorers. Think you've been around the world and seen every corner of it? Well then, where am I now?? This was my line of thinking... again... I never intended for people to fly around looking for my spots... because yes, that would be insane for most of these locations... without already having been to the location. I see now that this was an elitist attitude and I will try to water down my future challenges to something that people can go look for using only clues within the image itself.
For what it is worth, when I said the spot had been mentioned before as "impossible to get into", this was the thread I was referring to:
