All this does is disables Nagle algorythm (wikipedia it or smth) globally for your connection. In a nutshell, Nagle algo makes your connection wait for several packets before actually sending them (to reduce the amount of header data sent, etc etc).
Nagle actually reduces traffic (increases speed) for 'big' transfers, such as files, websites, etc. However its effect is pure negative when it comes to realtime online applications which send/receive data constantly in small amounts, which WoW is.
What this registry edit does, is disables Nagle for your connection. Globally. So you'll actually see a negative effect for websites/downloads/etc, but a very positive effect for WoW in most cases.
It's also worth mentioning that WoW will have Nagle flagged off in patch 2.3.2 for its connections, so you can just revert this registry change once 2.3.2 hits and enable Nagle globally again (its a good thing, afterall), but have it still off for WoW. (It's also possible to reach this effect with a local proxy, which is described in the Elitist Jerks forum thread.)
And finally, there's no way you can get banned for this. All you do is alter your TCP/IP settings, nothing else. It's also very easy to revert, and unless you really do something wrong you cant harm your PC or OS or whatever.
It did help me personally a lot. Went from 250ish down to 100ish, and I live in Russia, where good internet connections don't exist.
thx for the repost but its not your work so no rep
Yeah, thanks for this lowered my ping![]()
My latency seems to have gone from 250-350 to 140 or less. I'm quite happy I came by this thread![]()
Anyone know how to Do it for vista yet.. My latency is at 222, its so annoying!
