I have it set up so I can press a keybind to interact with the target pet, but the moment I press it, I can't use my murloc's polymorph.
Apparently if you are mind controlling a npc, you can't start a battle or you get the 'in combat' error. Meaning you need to dismiss it before. But when you do, it starts attacking you even if you're in stealth. Meaning you need to vanish after dismissing it, but not instantly, like 0.5sec after. With a 3sec polymorph it's tight but I got it working at my 2nd try.
1) Cast the NPC's hex
2) Dismiss the NPC (I'm using a /run PetDismiss() macro)
3) Vanish when it starts attacking you
4) Spam your 'interact with target' keybind (Menu>Key bindings>Targeting)

Seems like only true polymorphs work since you or the pet have to stay out of combat to fight
The debuff falls off when the battle pet resets. If you can keep it in combat while getting yourself out of combat, it will stay polymorphed and you can launch the battle. (Done with a hunter by keeping the two pets fighting each other)

i just did the murloc with 2 accounts, making the capturing much easier since you dont need to fiddle around with combat stuff. I've used a priest and a hunter.
Phase 1: Find a suitable battle pet to catch
Phase 2: Kite! If you have a rogue, use a rogue. Seriously, the priest method is a real pain... not hard but super annoying. In case you only have a priest, you have 2 options:
. Option 1: Use Mind Control without the talent to kite the murloc to the destined location. Everytime you MC an enemy, its "reset/home" location seem to change. This way you can just MC the target, run ~20-30y towards the target location, break MC, catch up with your priest to the murloc and MC again. Rinse and repeat. The advantage of this method is, you dont have to wait 2 minutes for the talent in case you run out of time.
. Option 2: Use the talent which allows you to control your priest while using MC. The issue with this option is: MC only lasts 30 seconds and with the talent it has a 2 minute cooldown.
Phase 3: Catch. Make sure your other character (in my case the hunter) is not in combat before using the hex spell. Use the hex on the battle pet and use your other character to fight it.
Note: keep in mind the murloc has a mana bar and his spells need quite a bit of mana. Just body tanking it for a few minutes will cause it to go oom, making it impossible to use the hex. It might be possible to go around this by buffing it with a druids innervate - but an easier way is to just CC it until your MC is back off cooldown. (Thats why I had the hunter with me)

Hello, as far as I know MC doesn't change the reset point. So from what I understand you could have used Purge to hold aggro while kiting that would be the same but faster. In fact the fastest is to use MC talent to mount up for 30sec, and then dismount and keep kiting while purging.
Heads up: when I tried on an ally rogue, the bribed NPC despawned upon entering Westguard Keep.

didnt test the purge thing but the MC talent works. you might run into the issue with the murloc running oom though (had that happen 2 times)

Oh? The mob couldn't cast it on critters when I tried it. I'm curious to know how you did that.

Yes it's tricky because the NPC has to be attacking the target to successfully cast the curse. First I make him fight a random mob on top of the battle pet (curse is melee range), then after a swing attack, I make him attack the pet and cast the curse.
/petattack
/cast Curse of the Eye
/petfollow
with the battle pet targetted.
Then to capture it solo I use the technique of the two clients to log on another char and launch the battle.

The real question is does this persist through a cold reboot of the server instance.

Could someone explain how to do the one with Discombobulator ray? I did not understand the guides you gave and only got 1 use on the ray left

Yes that's the one, it works like Discombobulator Ray because it puts you in combat with the pet.

What problem do you face ?
If you can log on 2 chars at the same time (either using 2 accounts or 1 account with 2 clients), or maybe have someone else transform the pet for you, then you just need to use the ray on one character and start the battle on the other who isn't in combat.
Or you can use a hunter:
1. Use your pet's taunt on the battle pet
2. Put your pet on passive before it kills the battle pet
3. Use the ray
4. Feign death for a few sec to be sure you drop combat
5. Wake up and press your 'Interact with target' keybind
Easier with a battle pet that tries to fight rather than one that runs away.
