[Minor] Portaling your low level alts to anywhere using your own mage

Useful, but hardly an exploit. I assumed this was common knowledge by now and have done this both with friends or alone with group finder.

No. I did this years ago by being in a group with a friend, opening a portal on my mage, relogging my alt, getting invited and using my own portal. This is ages old and definitely not an exploit.

I don't know how many "years" ago you did that, but I have clear memories that when I've tried this years ago it didn't work.
This has been changed probably in MoP or end-cata, but earlier it was impossible to do.

I never use the new Group Finder and had no idea about the "Auto Join" option.

Yep, sticking "portal your alts" in the search comes up with many threads all the way back to 2006, infact you replied in the earliest one haha.

Although its a new method through the group finder (cuts out having to group with a friend), portaling your alts is definetly old.

This is indeed an exploit, just because Blizzard doesnt care enough about fixing it doesnt make it intended. Free your minds children. No one respects you for talking trash.
