A more powerful spell is already active

Basically since PW:S can crit now, you get a lot of annoying messages that "A more powerful spell is already active". Even more often if you play with Divine Insight.
Same thing happens with temporary buffs (like int proc).

What's more interesting about this is how WoW mechanics work. It will allow you to overwrite your previous shield if the "current" one is stronger.
Your chance to crit with PW:S from what I've seen is calculated every time you try to cast PW:S, even if it results in a failed attempt.
Your failed attempts don't trigger gcd. What this means is that if you spam PW:S, it WILL overwrite your previous PW:S in a really short time (depending on your crit chance).
I'm more curious if other mechanics/spells work this way.

This does not allow you to crit more often. Each time a spell is cast you have a certain percentage rate to crit. If you get a crit it will overwrite the previous shield from what he is saying. Or if calculating your current spell damage chance is stronger than the last one.

That is because all damage has range. You will not cast the same exact spell with the same exact damage thanks to range.

So that doesnt exactly mean that your shield is crit-ing. That means that your range was higher than before.
