omfg, this worked for me twice in a row, +rep! a quick note for anyone that does this in tanaris. dont go too far deep in the water. even though u dont have a breath or fatigue meter, going too close to the bottom of the ocean will still kill you

What i did was send my pet on a mod insight while standing by the flight master. The key is to have the mob out of sight, and you only be able to see your pet then fly. Works every single time. Got bored and went to uninstanced ZG on a gryphon as a 19 warlock

Reading the posts above and watching some videos's i think i've come up with a 100% sucess rate plan (works everytime for me and ive done it plenty of times)
1.Use your Aspect of Cheetah
2.Select your mob
3.Send your pet and talk to the Griffin master while your pet nor the mob are on screen, so in other words dont look at them.

Probally works anyway but if your having trouble like I did at start try this way
