purely client-side. i have tested it myself.
this means no one else can tell you are doing a different looking dance.

what this really does is cause the top of your body and bottom of your body to be out of sync thus resulting in a different looking dance.

I've been doing this for ages. You don't need to do anything special with the camera view or anything. Just hit your left and right arrow keys to turn (default mapped A and D). Voila. Simple.
