Wrong, person who originally had name gets the old name
Didn't work with me, they changed the lvl 1's name. I think you need a bit luck or must level the lvl1 char a bit.

blizzard...checking IP's...sounds a little obsessive don't ya think? It's too easy to just add an IP hider or even delete the WTF files leaving no proof you logged on at that IP (unless it saves it in from the start or something) There's a debate at the moment actually and quite alot of ppl believe blizz doesn't and never will check IP's. This would work on the same computer I can almost guarantee it.
Trying the one posted above Ill edit it later
Tried this on my 26 mage "Thoramon".
Got renamed to "Thoramom".
Thoramom sounds fukken ridiculous, god damnit!
2 bad the ip blizz cheks fo aint related to a computer but to your provider and your accound at the provider so you need another computer at somone elses place
this still works =) I deleted my character and told my friend to make a alliance(im horde) with the same name and then i contacted a GM and then a GM said he can recover my char but I have to change my name =)
@Noloony,
Why would they know "your acount at the provider"? You didn't tell them that information. All you have to do to mask your IP adress is through using a proxy program such as TOR. It does this through connecting through a series of host computers (many of them) which then pass the data through to Blizzard's servers. Like Chinese whispers, but without the retards.

it seems to be different from gm to gm : /
some let you only add or change one letter and others let you change your complete name ... thats stupid![]()
