Max Out Skinning Bug

Kazin's right. The method of re-skinning a dead beast over and over rotating between different corpses has existed for a long time and there's another post about it on the front page currently.

Someone in THAT thread described the method as "Old as WoW" and he's not far off.

What you're doing is replacing the step "skin using a hotkey instead of right clicking on the beast" with "use a quest item instead"
That inherently is NOT the exploit, since this wouldn't work at all without the game's low-limit cache of gathering profession loot-ables.

For those confused, the game only caches the last three or four times you've skinned or mined or herbed regardless of whether or not you looted the body. So, if you rotate around 4+ bodies, reskinning each one using a hotkey, the game thinks you're skinning a new creature each time.

Given that this method works WITHOUT your quest item and can be done at ALL levels, this is an unnecessary exploit whether or not it's technically a repost.

actually the magic # is 5...your initial mob will reset when you skin 4 consecutive mobs...this method can be tweaked to be used with mining and herbalism too...and yes this has worked as far back as vanilla wow...by doing it his way you are merely replacing 1 step with another...at least with the known method you end up with 5 pieces of leather...

Apparently I'm a little retard =P Because I just tried with 8 mobs using a hotkey set to /cast Skinning and I couldn't get it to work at all (testing on Durotar boars as a lvl 19 priest). I can skin them all once, but if i fail to loot, then even after skinning 7 more I still can't skin the first one.

useless in any way, skinning is one of the fastest Trades that one can do, +you need the Leather to actually get something out of the Skill.
