Breaking the Honor Cap before Season 9 (not useful after Dec. 14th)

This is not the most useful exploit in the world, and will be anoying. But if you're like me sitting at the 4k honor cap and sick of running heroics, this is a decent way of banking as much extra honor as you can farm in the next two days. (Season 9 is scheduled to begin on December 14th)


After you hit the honor cap, purchase any piece of PvP gear, then farm back up to around 4000. Items purchased with honor can be returned for full price within 2 logged in hours. This means if you are logged off the timer stops ticking.



You're obviously going to be logged in while you farm more honor, so be sure to keep very careful track of how much time your items have left.
After 1 hour 45 minutes or so, buy another piece of honor gear and return the first, to refresh the amount of time you can be logged in. You can fill your bags with as many pieces as you would like.
Be careful to not accidentally sell a piece that will push you over 4000 honor. To find out how much an item will return for you can right click to sell it. A dialog will pop up asking if you are sure you want to return the selected item for XXX Honor points.


I can not guarantee they won't do something about this when they patch for season 9, but I can confirm that it works for now.

Personally I'm buying Field Marshal gear. If Blizzard is clever and doesn't allow refunds of items bought pre-season 9, I'll at least have a set of banana gear to run around in.

Erm, I'm not sure this'll work, I remember Blizzard prevented this for honor gear in previous seasons, where people were planning on logging off with an item then refund it but Blizzard changed it so when the servers went down nothing was refundable.

I'm pretty sure they changed this way back in S4 or S5.

I could be wrong, either way as you said even if it doesn't work it doesnt matter so much.

First, I would recommend buying 1 item at a time and replacing the honor before buying another.
Secondly, If you read the rest of the post you would see how to work around the 2 hour limitation.

Did you try it and get that message? It may say that if you attempt to sell something that will bring you over the honor cap, to prevent you from wasting honor. (For example: If you have 3600 honor and try to sell something worth 700 honor).

I am currently at 3633 honor, with a PvP mount in my backpack (worth 2000 honor) and am getting no such message.

Ok, I am going to say this now... to all of you. Don't do this. Why? Because, this has been a known thing that you could do back even in WOTLK... so Blizz fixed this. Go ahead and buy, it still won't let you go over 4k if you try to sell it back. This is a decent idea to make honor, but doesn't really work as Blizz has long fixed this. Also, I would venture to say that it is even kind of useless... I mean, why are you trying to break honor cap in the first place at the start of the season? Is this so you can sit on the honor for 6 months unti lthe next season starts? lol You are going to be buying the gear and keeping it anyways...

So sure, buy the gear within 2 hours of server going down... start farming up some honor again, sell it back. What are you going to do, just buy those pieces back anyway cause you want some honor? lol

the idea is that when it launces u have 4k honor + endless honor in stuff that u can sell back, seems like nobody understands it lol

this means when season9 starts you could have all honor nonsets and sets and get an enourmous headstart in arenas.

I think what you might be missing is that the Season 9 level 85 honor gear is not available right now. The best pvp gear you can buy is the 80 Wrathful gear.
Without this exploit you would only have 4000 honor to spend on Tuesday and only be able to buy two season 9 pieces.
WITH the exploit you could potentially buy a full set of season 9 gear on Tuesday, depending on how many refundable pieces you banked. I'm already up to 4k honor worth of refunds (I started using the pvp mounts as my placeholders)

Also please don't say that this will not work and that Blizzard has fixed it without proof. You don't seem to understand what this is for or how it works, so how could you know if it is fixed or not?

Go ahead and buy, it still won't let you go over 4k if you try to sell it back.

You're not supposed to sell the pieces back until you buy the new level 85 gear after December 14th. I didn't think I had to spell it out for you that much.

Step 1: Reach the current honor cap of 4000 Honor
Step 2: Buy a PvP mount worth 2000 Honor (Start a timer for 1 hour 45 minutes)
Step 3: Farm more honor
Step 4: 1 hour and 45 minutes after Step 2 Buy another PvP mount and sell the one you bought during step 2 (Restart your timer for 1 hour 45 minutes)
Step 5: Keep farming honor until you are almost at the 4000 cap again (And still have a fresh PvP mount in your bags)
Step 6: Repeat until December 14th.

Step 7: On the 14th buy whatever level 85 Season 9 pieces you would like
Step 8: Sell one PvP mount (being careful that you don't have more than 2000 honor when you sell it, or some honor will be wasted)
Step 9: Buy more Season 9 pieces
Step 10: If you have more PvP mounts saved, sell them off one at a time, buying new gear as you do.

Seems like you might end up with a few hundred extra, I personally don't see the value but I won't knock it if it works =/
