This does not work. I asked a GM two weeks ago and he answered me that it does not worK.
If you still don't believe me, use /run print(GetXPExhaustion()) on a level 79 toon.
It will print your amount of rested xp in the chat box. And this amount will never go higher that what you need to reach level 80.
Hope this helped & sorry for my horrible english.
When TBC came out my lvl 60 char had 1,5 bar rested on it so with quest experience you are rested until lvl 62 and a bit
When WotLK came it was same story
I don't think they will change it
Only problem I see here is rested XP being a fixed amount, and not a % of your current level.
Say you're lvl10 with 150% (max) rested exp and that's about 5k exp (random number here), then you grant levels to your character through the refer-a-friend bonus up to 60.
You will end up at level 60 with something like 1% of rested bonus, and not level 60 with 150%.
I don't know the exact numbers, but with only 5 levels for Cataclysm the difference in required exp to level will be pretty large between 79-80 and 80-81.
Though that doesn't make the trick useless, any kind of bonus is nice.
No, you didn't have rested xp when BC came out. The only way you earned rested xp was if you bought the xpac, it came out, then you used a different character first. Thus accumulating rest experience.
Also the most you get over is the amount of a quest, and that's not rested xp, it's the xp you earned as you dinged level cap. With some quests this can have you over 80 by as much as ~40k xp now in wrath. If you were at 99% and turned in a group/dungeon quest.
Actually, 2 levels is the max amount of rested XP a character can gain. 1.5 Levels is completely wrong.
And level capped characters still gain their max amount of rested as long as they are logged off for a long period of time (Or in an inn/Main City).
No exploit.

You are ridiculously wrong. If you didn't have rested XP upon the release of BC or WoTLK, then you either didn't stay logged out long enough, or didn't log out in an inn/main city.

Well, RAF gives you unlimited rested as long as you level with the character you are recruiting and don't level past 60.
Actually at level 80 you also earn XP off of killing mobs, it just doesn't show up on your UI. If you killed enough mobs you would be 1 XP from leveling upon purchasing the expansion.
I was wondering:
I remember that before WOTLK came out, a lot of people prepared themselves with 25 quests from Outland zones.
Did it work?
Can we just do like 25 quests (for example from ICC) without completeing them and just turn them in when cata hits?
I'm obviously speaking of lvl 80 characters.
Sorry for my english but I have been awaken since 6:30 of this morning and I just came back home.
Let me know!
"Nullum magnum ingenium sine mixtura dementiae".
1) No, he is right, the max amount of rested xp is 30 bubbles (150% of a level).

2) No, he is ridiculously right, you did not have any rested XP upon the release of TBC & WotLK at midnight. Every GM is able to confirm that fact.
3) RaF has nothing to do with rested XP. RaF give the recruit and the recruiter triple experience points (300% while rested XP is only 200%) up to level 60 while partied and within 100 yards of each other.

Three points, and not any of them is true, please check your information before posting and missleading other members...
Yes, you can, as stated in the recent Cataclysm Dev Chat with BestBuy (19.11.2010):
Source: http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/Will you allow players to fill their quest log with say, 25 dailies, and then turn them in right after Midnight on December 7th to get a quick boost towards 85? This is how it worked in the beta, but some players are confused on whether it will work on Live. Thanks!
Regarding 25 daily quests to turn in when the expansion goes live, this is something players have been able to do for the last 2 expansions and we aren't talking about changing it now.
Happy questing ^.^

Rested experience will be reset at launch. You will start at 0 rested.

This didn't work for any previous expansion and it won't work this time, you guys that claim it did are either stupid or mistaken.
Your probably thinking of an alt that when you got around to playing had rested, which is irrevelant because once the expansion is live all of those alts can collect rested, not before. 59, 69 you were never able to get more rested than was needed to reach the next level, they won't let you in this one either, sorry you can easily google this stuff there are tons of threads right before each expansion where someone asks and is told the same thing, its just not ever going to work.
Blue post already stated they are clearing all rested experience. Terrible thread in the first place, its like common sense and how many people have toons that are level 79 that they will play as their main, when their more than likely existing level 80 already has completed alot in the game already.
Confirmed that rested will reset to 0 at the time of Cataclysm's launch, and also, herilooms don't scale with any level greater than 80. Not even from 80.1 to 80.9.
Doesn't blizz restore it at every expansion release?
'Nuff said
This had already been addressed by bliz... All rested xp will be reset to 0 at launch
