[Hunter] 15% more damage for serpent sting

    Hi everyone,

I actually found this on elitistjerks, but since you have to read pretty carefully the newest threads I thought I'd post it here. Credits to Pijn @elitistjerks.

The exploit is that you reapply Serpent Sting manually when your 2pT10 procs. With Chimera Shot refreshing the sting, you get the +15% Damage for the rest of the fight. Since Chimera Shots' Serpent part is also increased, this is a pretty nice dps gain for every Marksman hunter.

Have fun topping the meters with it while it lasts!

This worked for DK's with Rune of Disease before and got nerfed, so don't see why they shouldn't on hunters as well. Nice tips tho, and posted in wrong forum.

This is not working as intended. Similar bugs ended up getting hotfixed, use it while you can.

This is most certainly not working as intended. The reason this works is that it is an oversight by Blizz's part on the mechanics of proc buffs.

When you Chimera Shot, the shot automatically resets the buffs that serpent sting receives from things like AP procs(MoT etc), agi procs, etc. However, because there are only two procs that buff overall hunter damage(both were released in the last patch), they didn't have time to catch them.

Theoretically, this should be able to work with the tier 10 2piece AND Ferocity pets' new talent that increases damage by 3%.

I suppose, this could also theoretically work with Hysteria, if it were applied to a hunter, though as far as I know, no extensive testing has been done on the matter.

This is not working as intended and it will be hotfixed soon. The mechanics of Chimera shot will be updated(perhaps not immediately) to remove this.

This is definitely NOT intended, since Blizzard said that DoTs that are refreshed should receive the CURRENT buff status to calculate their damage.
This is NOT the case here, that's why it is an exploit.
It only does not get fixed for percentage-based buffs because they somehow can't manage to do it.

Reminder: Just because they don't fix a bug it doesn't mean its intended.

I disagree that this is working as intended. it is not intended to keep the +15% damage on serpent sting during the whole fight. the increase is supposed to be only for the 10-15 seconds of the buff. +rep from me! (i knew that bug already but he deserves to rep for posting the exploit)

I'm going to agree with bossqwerty on this one. Similar effects (Applying a DoT with a damage buff and refreshing it, not reapplying it, keeps the damage buff on that DoT even if the buff runs out) in the past have been nerfed. This is a bug and will probably get fixed, but use it while you can.

I dunno, seems to me they know about it, so it wouldn't be an exploit. Similar to the increase crit on lock dots that they SAID they aren't going to fix. So I doubt that this would as well. It's such a small increase that they won't bother with it.

Working as intended or not, but this is similar to using Nevermelting Ice Crystal ( Nevermelting Ice Crystal - Item - World of Warcraft ) with corruption as an affliction warlock.

However, I remember them nerfing something similar as well, which was the double trinket'ed lifebloom rolling in TBC and the mad hastened corruption rolling.

That's what i just said in the previous post. though you linked the items. The thing is though, it doesn't effect a 'huge portion' of dps, which is why blizz said they weren't going to fix the ice crystal. I don't expect they'll fix this for such a small increase to a single dps shot.
