Buff characters within their same account!

A week ago, while doing rogue skillups w/ lockpicking at around 3AM, I had no guildies on, and didn't see anyone around to cure the poison debuff i had that lasts 7 days if you don't go to tarren mill to get it cured. I hit up the AH in Orgimmar, then picked up my mail right outside.

So, i figured, heck, i'll just get on my paladin until tomorrow when the server isn't completely dead. I afked, grabbed a soda, and accidentally pulled up the wrong WoW window, thought "odd, i got DC'd". Logged in, and realized that i had kept 2 WoW windows open from 2boxing earlier. My paladin was logged out at the exact same mailbox, and to my left was my rogue. I cleansed him, giggled... Then I thought about it, tossed over a kings, and yup, it stuck too.

This morning, I had my buddy invite me to the group, i opened my 2nd window of wow, logged into the same account, and was able to toss an hour motw on the paladin. Logged off, got a 60min fort on the paladin.

I know none of this is game-breaking, but i was pretty stoked to have my level 32 rogue running around w/ fort and motw... it made soloing and picking locks in angor fortress in badlands a lot easier w/ 600 more hp.

So, TL;DR version:

Log in character1 in first WOW window, move him to where character2 is logged out.
Log in character2, buff character 1.

Because I keep all my characters hearthed to the inn in dalaran, it makes it pretty easy to do this every time i log into my lowbies.

Isn't this just like a friend would buff you? What's the exploit

Its the same account, incase you quick DC the character will be there for some min without getting loggd out.

yup, its exactly like a friend buffing you. minus the friend.

I'm on a pretty shitty lowpop server. I xfer'd off of a server at wotlk launch with 1.5hour wait times to log in. Currently, theres 1 horde guild thats done 25man togc. 1. ......wait, not joking. one. So, late at night, i could do a /who in dalaran and see single digits people.



It isn't a huge reward, but its incredibly easy, taking 45 seconds to toss yourself a few buffs.

I just tried this win enduced D/C, it doesnt let me be on the same account in 2 WoW's, never heard of this working before either, seems fake.

Did you try it exactly as i spelled it out for you? I didn't say to use "enduced D/C." I said to boot your first character by logging into the 2nd.

AGAIN:

Open 2 instances of WoW. Log in on one. Move to where 2nd character is logged out. Log into same account on 2nd character. Your 2nd character is there. If you left them autoattacking, they're not anymore, but they're still taking hits and keeping aggro for another 45 seconds or so.

There are many more, better uses for this. For example killing your own Horde character in Zangarmarsh to get Honor Hold tokens, or in Nagrand to get Halaa tokens and so on.

Wait a sec avoid, maybe i'm wrong here. You're telling me that blizzard intended for you to be able to switch between two characters so you could buff yourself with your characters?


I understand the purpose of characters existing in game even when they DC. I don't think this was it. I think you could exploit it for this purpose.

You should probably read up the definition of "exploit".

That's brilliant - I have to try that asap =)

Also, just a tip to everyone: You only have 20 seconds (Exactly) to do the switch before the character disappears, so make sure you're on a fast computer.
