Just a note, if you manage to release to a battleground during the fight, and AFK out while the fight is still going, you'll get the usual "Cannot zone in while a fight is in progress" message. I was just put outside the instance. I guess that's all common sense, though.

i just tested this though and it is not working anymore.

you get the message "you can't do that while your dead" when you try to enter the bg
