Easy Elite Grinding

I was working on the following quest"
[74] On Ruby Wings which sends you to Galakrond's Rest.

Since you are riding this huge elite dragon with lots of dps I found myself killing Rotting Storm Giants which yielded 3800 exp rested at level 74. they usually drop 3 Frostweave cloth and around 75 silver on average.

You can kill any of them around the pit but for some reason you only get exp for killing the ones in the pit. You can loot all of them but once again only the ones in the pit yield loot.

Guess it's more of a trick then a exploit.
