It's probably not a mod or a private server. The reason I say this is because it can happen on live servers. It usually happens when someone asks a real GM to fix something that requires them to log onto their characters. They tell you to log off and stay off for a certain amount of time. If you log on while they are still on it will disconnect them and you will have GM powers. However don't use the commands because I'm sure you'd get perma-banned.

Actually the videos on youtube are ALL people on private servers trying to scam your info. Nice try though. It's already been said, when a GM is on your account fixing something for you, you simply log on and it disconnects them and gives you the GM powers.

It was uber funny! I went through Ironforge screaming in yell and p00ning low levels that we're dueling. :P

Well this occoured when my FREIND did scam some guy off Enchanting mats (hah). THen instead of a ban he got Tag, invisible, and some shitloads of fun! :P Then he got like 1day ban for 'Hacking the Blizzards GM Powers'.. He we're like wtf :/

wow i didnt expect to get home from work and see this post this long. I didn't know the theory or stories had been posted previously i read all the "look at these before you post" threads. However, its fun to see everyone's stories. Since other ppl responded to the how can you tell its not a private server, by telling their own stories and how it happens, the only thing i have to respond to, is the "oh its fake he's lvl 120" i dont see how you get that unless you are looking at my mod at the bottom that says "L70" i guess that looks a little like it.....oh yea and i said my screenshots are all useless to those questioning them!

Second, there are no such thing as GM commands (like .die or .goname) on official server. GMs rarely log in game, they answer to tickets from an external console. And when they log in game to check something (very rare to happen) they use a special client. No commands.

Wrong, GM's can and sometimes WILL log on your account to fix a problem.

Facts:

• This happens when stupid GMs work on your account restoring professions, reputation etc. Anything that involves them having to log on your character.
• You are invisible until the GM fixes this.
• You can not use any GM commands. They are all disabled.
• You can whisper both horde and alliance while you have the GM title.

This has been posted many times before. You can't reproduce it accept having a GM work on your account and hope that he is mildly retarded.

Actually, this isn't the truth. I used to be a GM and we never once needed to login to their accounts/characters.

Seen this before, happened to an old guildie of ours.
His UI or something wasn't working properly even after disabling all the UI's and using the default WoW interface.
So a GM logged onto his account and he had at the front of his name.
This was the GM forgot to take the powers away as he logged out and they pretty much just put a ticket in to let Blizz know and about 4 hours later was removed from the account

This guy is a ****ing moron, everyone knows GM powers are credited to an account not a whole computer.

Now onto my story, this happened to a horde on my server Blackrock a couple of months after the BC release, he put in a ticket about an item and ended up with GM status for a couple of hours, its probably just a GM ****ing up with an item restore though i don't see how it could happen but i guess you don't have to be too intelligent to be a GM. I was an ally and i could read everything he sent to me and he could read mine.

Happened to me couple of months back (I posted about it on here)

One of the guild officers put /1337 in my public note (thus doing the Slash Number Bug) and anyone that looked at my guild note crashed.

I raised a ticket to get the note removed so the GM logged into my account and forgot to take off GM. I raised another ticket telling them they forgot to off GM and spent the entire day solo'ing heroics, Kara, etc.

You cant get hit (as mobs cant see you) and you have to keep up the damage or they bug reset back to 100% HP.
Couldnt kill any bosses in BT due to this, but did solo a few bosses in ZA, Kara and various Heroics. Also take about 20-40 minutes to kill 1 boss in heroics.
Took me 57 minutes to kill 1 trash in BT.

Also went into Orgrimmar and killed loads of horde. They couldnt hit back and apprently didnt show in combat logs either. But I still got honour



Got bored after about 8 hours so went into trade and offered GM boosts for 5k gold

Got removed really fast then :P



Looking back I soooooooo should have kept quiet about it. I could have made a fortune THEN raised a ticket
