Yes you can mount when you stand at the edge. No you will not stay mounted when you move to an area you cannot mount in.

If it thought you were on the boat you wouldn't be able to mount either. You can also do this on the boat. Just get on the edge of the boat where you are almost at the point of falling off and mount.

Oh the boat get on the Crate and you can mount up and dance about it.

For the people who are having trouble-Maybe ur doing it wrong just float on the edge and be careful not to fall off
