You have to capture the flag right after the BG starts, as I can read in other posts.

Hm.. maybe if a warlock summons u can also get flag and summon to the spot, and redo it.

I was able the grab the flag before the game starts. Even if your client hasn't loaded the flag model, put your cursor above the "pad" about halfway up where the flag would be and you'll get the "gear" symbol to loot it.
