    Modifying Spells Server-Side

    Hey everyone.

Recently I've been looking at modifying the cooldowns and possibly the costs of some spells, but I'm currently not using any client editing and I don't plan to. To what extent is it possible to edit spells server-side? I am aware that you can't really add new spells or visuals without client editing, but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to change cooldowns ETC. If someone could point me to a guide I would be very grateful. Ideally it'd be great to be able to edit descriptions and icons server-side, but I'm almost certain that can't be done (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Info: Using latest trinity on a WotLK 3.3.5a server with Eluna LUA engine set up.

    Thanks everyone.

You can change it server side.

But the client will still see a longer cooldown. If he tries to manually cast the spell the server will let him because the server thinks it has a shorter cooldown. But the client will still see the long cooldown normally.

I see. That's unfortunate. I thought that would just be an issue of cached data but from what you said I gather the client already knows all the data for spells, loosely.

Anyway, thanks for your answer, I appreciate it.

The DBC data contains a ton of information that needs to be synchronised between the client and server. The client can on the most part run independently without the server telling it much information, but the server needs this data to verify when a player tries to do something that they can actually do this and that they are not cheating.

This is why it's not really possible to implement a lot of new stuff without client editing. Post WOTLK even more is moved away from server and towards the client storing it.

Currently, on server who have fix it, you can only reduce every cooldown by -0.4sec
