    Scripting stuff?

    Hi all,

total emu newb here so excuse me if I'm asking FAQs or something obvious.

I've always wondered, are spells and items manually (one by one) scripted and added by the programmer of the emu (repack, core, whatever dunno) or are they automatically taken from the game files without any modifications?

    Thanks.

We use the spell DBC to get spell info and how it works, then script the spell effect. For example, spell is cast, we see it has the single target ranged damage flags, then we read that record to validate it is a valid cast and how much damage to do.

You also get spells with dummy or script effects. These usually need to be manually coded.

Hackfixing is when a spell is manually coded instead of getting the spell effects it uses properly working.

Hmm, I see, so I've been testing some GM/unused/old/never released spells from the 1.1.12 client, and some of them aren't working. Does that mean that the coder didn't bother coding them at all or what?
    And what about items?

I think 'didn't bother' is the wrong phrase. More like wasn't able to or didn't have the time. I never said it was easy doing it properly. He might also have just not known about it. If it's a spell effect very rarely used, then he might not have known that it needs implementing or is not working as intended. This is why player reports are important for emulator developers.

Items with equip/chance on hit/on use effects use spells, so for that part they are spells effectively.
