Need some sort of Sandbox or Personal Server.

I've been trying to set up some stuff from here to pull this off - Started the compile your own ArcEMU deal here (before ending up realizing .dll files were missing and I understand even one missing .dll file can cripple a program so I moved on):

    http://www.mmowned.com/forums/world-...wn-repack.html

And got this finally working only to apparently find out it's just a private wow server it seems I can't do anything but play on what's set up? here:

    http://www.mmowned.com/forums/world-...6-13623-a.html

Now, what I need to figure out how to do this for is a website I'm making by request and I want imagery for it but am not spending the hundreds of dollars to buy all the trading card mounts and everything I can't get my hands on anymore, etc etc, don't want to be at the mercy of other people's screenshots for visual content to go along with everything else.

So, preferably I would like to use a sandbox however I don't understand coding of that nature enough and frankly don't have the time to learn it to fit in with the rest of what I wish to do that takes priority.

Any suggestions of existing threads with things I can set up would be greatly appreciated. Seems a lot of the most useful stuff here is dated to Wrath, that I can identify as seeming stable and worth the time to work with for what I need - but I haven't been able to identify anything up to 4.0.6.

What I exactly plan to do is, summon up item sets to equip (a sandbox i had, i could create a toon, conjure items into bags to equip, teleport to coordinates (usually had to figure them out but that's easymode) -- mount on whatever, turn into any mob skin

All of these would solve my image needs for site content I just obviously can't do it on live servers without dropping a few years at least and thousands of dollars for trading card things - as well as of course mounts you can't get anymore.

Need some sort of Sandbox or Personal Server.

Welcome to emulation lol. Pretty much all the goals you listed can be done on a private server via simple commands. For what you need, MaNGOS or trinity would probably be your best bet. MaNGOS is relatively easy to compile and use. Now, if you're looking for Cataclysm content, unfortunately there's nothing really stable and bug free as of yet. SkyFireEMU is about as far as I've went with cataclysm emulation and pretty much gave up on it for now. I spent about two days trying to get the core to compile and a database to work with it just to finally get in game and not be able to equip items, wasn't able to log out etc. etc.

If you don't want to get into compiling you can use repacks which are basically pre-compiled self contained servers that are most of the time easy to set up, sometimes not. You can find these in the general releases section of the emulation forums.

Oh dear lord you followed my tut, God bless you sir.

As said above if its wotlk content your after just grab a 3.3.5a repack, i personally believe ArcEmu is the easiest to use i think it has more fixed content aswell, im not 100% sure as ive only just stped back into the Emu scene myself, and if things are missing, Mounts, items etc etc its not that hard to add them using wow-v and wowhead no that wowhead should have pretty much every wotlk item in there DB.

If you do want cata however as said SkyFireEmu is the only one i know of, Yes there is the problem of you not been able to equip anything, talents not working etc etc, however there is an app that you place into your wow directory that makes a copy of wow.exe and patches the original to work with skyfireemu, this allows you to do the stuff you couldn't before, ie equip items and such.

If you find your repack is missing things just have a scout around the releases section, I would also recommend giving StonerHarry a shout if you ever got stuck on scripts and such, guy is a legend in my eyes.

Ha I decided to venture into ArcEMU again and I stumbled across your post at the end of the thread. Once you install visual c++ most of the required dlls are installed on your pc by default and don't need to be added to the compile directly. The only dll you need in your server folder is the libmysql.dll which, once you install the mysql server software, you can find it in the installation directory under the lib folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\lib). For some reason it wont compile the collision dll. You don't really need it unless you want line of sight enabled on your server. In your case I doubt you'd need to worry about line of sight if it's just going to be you on the server, but, the server will start without the collision dll.

@CimSlunt Now that I think about it, i forgot to run the exe patcher at the end of the tut LOL. I might give it a shot later after I finish messing around with my Arc server. I think I'll end up going back to Arc instead of MaNGOS because ArcEmu is a hell of a lot easier to go public with. I've been fighting with my MaNGOS server for about the last two days to get it public and it just refuses to do so.

As has been previously stated, you have 3 options for a WOTLK server: TrinityCore, MaNGOS, and Arcemu.

Arcemu is good for customization and (maybe) stability. (Stability isn't going to matter for a one-person server.) (arcemu.org)
MaNGOS is a mix between TrinityCore and Arcemu. (getmangos.com)
TrinityCore has by far the most features working. (trinitycore.org)

For 4.0.6 servers, your options are limited to one emulator; skyfire.
it's useful, -ish, and will do find if you want a sandbox in a literal sense of the word (no spawns, nothing but the stock environment and you). (projectskyfire.org)

I'd recommend trinitycore if you want to use fancy boss-spells or some bleeding-edge items or effects.
A guide for setting it up yourself can be found here: How-to:Win - TrinityCore Wiki

It's going to be a bit more complicated than a repack, but compiling it yourself opens up a whole new world of possibilities.

Alright, venturing back into Skyfire. Will report back here soon...

    -----

Myran: Sandbox would cover all of my bases - As I said all I need to do is

    1) Be able to mount on anything
    2) Be able to morph into anything (if it's just like a sandbox, it'll work too)
    3) Optional: spawn things by hand wherever (for screenshots)

I have zero need to have nodes and mobs and everything running about, I still play the game live and get enough of that there. :P

You have very basic wants, all of these are possible very, very easily with every single emulator. You can do a lot more easily as well if needed.

Maybe this will provide a insight into the things that are possible just through commands (more is possible through scripting/DB): Game Master Documentation - ArcEmu-wiki

Used ArcEmu as example as most people consider ArcEmu commands easy to understand compared to Mangos/Trinity.
