    General Noob question

I was curious if it is possible to run 2 versions of WoW (not simultaneously). I play the real Blizzard online varsion (4.0.1.13205), and am awaiting Cata, but I am also interested in playing on a private server (3.3.5.12340). I guess my question actually is, can I copy my entire WoW folder to a different location on my computer, and make the provate server adjustments to it, and run it from there, without affecting my REAL WoW?

sure you can.. you can even run them simultaneously

its a matter of copying the wow folder.. and de-patching one of them

how ever many copies of the wow folder you have.. you can run that many different versions

Depatch the WoW you have. Download another WoW in another location and patch it up to 4.0.1
Viola, you have a version for private servers and a version for retail.
    Cheers
