    How to start developing

    I was wondering how the private server devs learned how to do scripting for bosses, spells, and all the stuff devs do on private servers. Just playing on WoW has gotten so boring for me I actually uninstalled the game a few months ago.
    I still have a love for the game and always wanted to be a developer on a private server. I tried the whole GM thing out and it just dosnt do it for me.

    I was wondering how developers got there start and what I need to get started in learning how to be a private server developer. I know you need to know scripting but I have no idea what scripting languages I need to know or what programs I need.

    Any advice on how to get started would be greatly appriciated. Also any links to begginers guides and stuff like that would be nice. It would be nice to know the basics of like what scripts developers use to do different things on WoW. Like script bosses, raids, mobs, quests, spells, etc...

    For me, I was friends with a person who coded bosses in LUA. This meant that I setup a private ArcEmu server on my machine to test and modify his scripts. If you want, I can uplad a few scripts to help you get started, as once you take a look at them, they become extremely self explanitory.

    Absolutely right! That guy explains EVERYTHING very well. This is one of the best tutorials you'll ever get to see. I actually didn't read a single book but am meanwhile able to do my own, even though they're kinda hacky :S, fixes for my core.

    For me;

    I started my own server, or a few servers, hehe.
    I learned how the database worked, first by spawning creatures, adding vendors, making
    custom things in the database and then moving to LUA where I could script my own bosses, instances, events, etc by looking at the documentation that's in the ArcEmu wiki. After that I moved to the core where I learned how everything works, how to identify, add functions, etc.
    Just try to understand how everything works from the database and up.
    Good Luck on Developing, following tutorials and you should be good.
