ok, it was making .wmo's and .mdx's.

I do have the ad.exe program because it came with my 3.0.8 repack. However I do not have what vmap tutorials have said to be the vmap_extractor and vmap_assembler. I also have the collision.dll files they mention because the files also came with the repack.

O damn, my bad! I didnt read the thread title correctly, my apologies. I have no idea if the vmap extractor will work at any patch, if its making .wmo's and .mdx's (I've never personally extracted vmaps, so what its doing could be right..), ill take a look into extracting them later and see the outcome, and ill edit this post for you.

    so I downloaded prepack 9 and found & downloaded vmap_extract_v3 and vmap_assembler

I ran the extractor and assembler which seemed to work properly. My vmap folder located in my Arcemu folder now contains a total of 2634 .vmap and .vmdir files.

I enabled my configs\arcemu-world document to state: Collision="1"
the problem still is that I am able to cast through trees and the creatures/npcs are able to walk through walls+trees.

I have used .debug testlos and the results tell me "not in LOS, not in LOS, not in LOS" as it should when I'm on the other side of a wall. However when I'm behind a tree it gives "in LOS, in LOS, in LOS"

P.S. I was looking into upgrading to repack 9 in the hopes that it would have less bugs (such as the inability to cast spells on occasion, or guild vault crashing my server). Am I right to assume repack 9 would be less buggy?

I will never suggest a Repack, simply because they have no chance of being updated etc, I would suggest compiling yourself, and fresh downloading a database.

Along with this, make sure you also have your map files extracted.

    1) I guess my ultimate question right now is, "How do I make it so I can not cast through trees and creatures can not run through trees (or even spawn underground)."

    2) What does compiling do and what are the benefits?

    3) I have recently been researching the Mangos program and was wondering if there were any significant differences between Arcemu and Mangos. So far I do not believe I've read an honest review about either.

    4) Collision detection is...kinda working? I noticed today that one of the npcs in Thunderbluff who normally floats over the pathway now actually walks on the ground properly. (however that's not my problem...its the whole npcs walking through walls and trees; does collision detect actually control that?)

I can't speak to that personally seeing as I'm not entirely sure if you have vmaps working and working properly myself. As far as I know, vmaps should prevent you from casting through most trees, but this may not be the case for all of them. I'm sure Kiev or someone with more expertise has a more certain answer.
    2) What does compiling do and what are the benefits?
Compiling is "creating" your own server by downloading and setting up the files directly from the source (Arcemu and whatever database you choose). It allows you to update the server yourself and fix bugs whereas you do not have the source from a repack and you cannot update without knowing the source. Patching a repack is also impossible in almost all cases. Repacks should only be used for private or development purposes and not for a public server (unless possibly it is to remain stagnant patch-wise such as a 2.4.3 or 1.12 server).
    3) I have recently been researching the Mangos program and was wondering if there were any significant differences between Arcemu and Mangos. So far I do not believe I've read an honest review about either.
Mangos seems to be more preferred by experienced users or by those creating blizzlike servers. It's often recognized as being more stable, but also much harder to customize. Arcemu is often reported as being a bit less stable, but being much easier to work with and customize.

    4) Collision detection is...kinda working? I noticed today that one of the npcs in Thunderbluff who normally floats over the pathway now actually walks on the ground properly. I'm not 100% sure on that, but I don't believe so. It's something you may have to live with. Again someone with more expertise can confirm, but I think its patrol path was just done incorrectly.

I'm no expert, but I hope this was helpful.
