LAN Public server question

Hey all, noob question for you. Sorry if this is a redundant question, but i'm forward deployed and time and bandwidth is at a minimum.

I'm trying to set my laptop as a dedicated server for me and my buddies to all connect to. I'm just not sure how to do it. I see threads for routers and stuff but not sure how this would relate to what i'm trying to do.

I want to use my laptop as a sever and still play on it, at the same time allowing others to connect to my server. Will I have to have a router or can I set up a private network and have everyone connect wireless to my laptop/server that way? If that is possible what files to I need to modify. I'm using a Mangos 3.2.2 version and it works great standalone.

It would work exactly the same as it would a normal host, you need to forward to ports to your laptop local ip, and then make sure its configurated properly for all of that. And thats all you need to do, apart from running the server. Its nothing different. As far as i know anyway.

Some reason its not letting me change the name or ip on the realm table. if i do the realmd file wont come up. any info?

For the reason i can connect through a router but it loops with the realm list

You need to change the configs to best suit you, i cant really understand what you are trying to say by writing that. Sorry.

1st. In the realmd database folder, .frm, .myd, .myi file i've tried to change the realm name and ip that its hosted on, but realmd.exe wont open without closing..

2nd. i was trying to host from one computer so the other server i can enjoy good fast gaming. so it takes my user and pw but keeps looping me back to choose the realm i want..

do i have the same answer?

You do not edit the .frm or any of those files, those are the database files themselves, you need to edit the realmlist file, or what ever contains the information on the realmlist. Not the database files

What you need to do is use a program like navicat, to open a connection to your MySQL server, then open the "realmd" database, and edit the realmlist table name to what you want.
