There's a difference between "required" and "recommended". At the player base you specified, you'll need a quick CPU, a least 2.6 to 3.0 GHz speed. Dual/Quad core helps, but not necessary unless you've got a slow speed. RAM is also very important, but for a server like that you probably shouldn't need more than one or two gigs. Hard Drive is different, the database isn't very large, and the core isn't either. The two largest things you will be using data storage for is the database and maps/vmaps folders. You can get away with an 80 gig hard drive and be fine.
Internet speed is very important, and for that many players I would recommend at least 100MB upload. You should focus more on upload speed, it's the most important part. When an internet's speed is fast upload-wise, it's always going to be a fast download speed.
Now, recommended is different, if you want a stable and lag-free server you should get a dual or quad core processer at at least 3.0GHz, 3 to 4 GB RAM, and ~100MB upload speed. The hard drive isn't that important, just a money waster.
These are ONLY IF you happen to have 500-1000 players, but don't expect it. Get a small dedicated if you're just starting, you won't have that many players over night, you can always upgrade the hardware.
I also recommend you use some form of a Linux distribution for your server, you'll see why.
I was just trying to get a overview for what i would need to maybe upgrade to.
Thanks allot Cain
